Principal’s Message Spring 2017
Welcome to the second half of the 2016 – 2017 school year! Teachers continue to receive professional development in the Boys Town Training, as part of our Davenport Way, addressing behaviors in a positive proactive manner alongside our current PBIS program highlighting the ROAR. Boys Town is a positive behavior program that promotes self-regulation complete with skill instruction to assist our teachers and children daily. Students and teachers have been focusing on a skill each week and these can be found on our website under Boys Town Skills. Please check out the steps of each skill and practice at home. Children demonstrating positive behavior expectations are highlighted weekly and at the ROAR Assembly each month.
A new mission statement, listed below was created by our teachers this school year. You may notice it posted around the building as part of our new Collaborative Teacher Team Process. Teachers in grade level teams work together to plan core lessons that meet the needs of all students. They also meet weekly to select a common core standard that is selected from the report card priority standards. This work is on-going and provides teachers time to plan together to either intervene, or enrich, the curriculum when necessary. We will also offer after school tutoring in February and March for grades 3-5 to assist with homework and extensions in the area of science.
Finally, consider joining the PTA and attending the second Tuesday of each month from 6:00 – 7:00 and learn about the updates that affect your child’s education as well as opportunities to volunteer at Jackson. The PTA is planning several events for the second semester of school and you are always invited to attend these events. We also welcome, Mr. Jarrod Conner as our new Family Involvement Liaison. You will find him in classrooms, Room 3, at Title I Events or on the playground assisting throughout the day in various ways.
There are many reasons Jackson is so successful in educating and supporting your child’s development. We are committed to see each and every child grow both academically and socially to become productive citizens. We will continue to work together with you and your child to provide the best education, because you are an essential part of the work of education, we welcome your input. Every member of the Jackson Team is responsible for the success of each student. We are proud with you to be Jackson Jaguars!
