The Parent groups at Hayes sponsor several fund raisers
throughout the year. The money raised pays for supplies, supplemental
activities, and additional school programs. School-wide participation is
encouraged.

Dad's Club

Don't let the name fool you, this organization is not only for
Dad's. There are plenty of mom's, grandparent's, aunt's and uncle's who
are involved with this group.
Dad's Club is a local and district wide organization which
supports children's interest. Among these involvements is a wide spread
sports program through the elementary schools. Contact the Dad's Club
office at the Friendly House for further information at 323-1821 or the Dad's
Club Info Line at 326-6080.

PTO
Parent Teacher Organization
Be a Hayes Bulldog; Be a PTO supporter!
The PTO here at Hayes is very active in helping to support the school and
activities of the students. It is instrumental in bringing about many positive programs and
activities for the children in the school.
The PTO has sponsored the following events and programs
over the years: The Children's Literature Festival, Safety Patrol equipment and
pins, RIF (Reading Is Fundamental), purchasing the new playground equipment,
Teacher Appreciation, Fun Night (this is their main fundraiser for the
year), and helping to defray some of the cost for Class Study Trips.
Become involved and know your children's school, teachers and
friends. We are always looking for help on Popcorn Tuesdays, RIF book
distribution day, School Pictures and with stuffing the Thursday information
folders. The Hayes Yearbook has just been completed and will be sent off
to the printer any day now. The PTO is currently in the process of writing
a grant for Security Cameras outside the building to help keep our school and
neighborhood protected.
Any amount of time and help you can spare is always
greatly appreciated and needed by the PTO and is of course beneficial to the
students at Hayes. Contact
a PTO Officer for more information.
Membership in the PTO is available at anytime during the school
year. Membership dues are $5.00 per person or $8.00 per couple.
Please contact one of officer listed below, we would be more than happy to answer
questions you may have
about the PTO at Hayes School.

Popcorn:
As of March 18th we have brought in $819.00 in popcorn sales. We
spent $223.64 on supplies giving us a profit of $595.36. Thank you to
our popcorn eaters. |
 |
Spring Pictures:
Pictures were not sent home with the students, parents must pre-pay for
pictures, then the packets will be sent home. This procedure seemed to
work much better for everyone, se we will do it this way again next spring. |
 |
End of Quarter Incentive
We will be sending students who are eligible to Opera Iowa. PTO
fully paid for this event. $545.00. Thank you PTO! |
 |
Yearbook:
The book has been sent off to production. Students did not help
put the book together this year, Judy Anthony and Mary Ray did the work on
the yearbook.
There are extra yearbooks to be sold on a first come, first serve basis. |
 |
Fun Night:
The time is approaching quickly so we need to get this organized
soon. Things we do know;
Date & Time: Friday, June 6th from 5:30-7:30
p.m.
Food: Hot dogs, chips, pop. Cash this year
instead of tickets.
Donations: Mary and Theresa will round up
volunteers to make calls for raffle donations.
Games: Reviewed-Mary will update sign up list and
post as date gets closer. More information about Fun Night will be
forthcoming as the date draws nearer.

Minutes from Nov. 27th PTO Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Sheri Day.
 |
SCRA Grant for Security Cameras:
We did not receive the grant for the security cameras. The grant
has been submitted three times now and turned down all three times. We
can either submit it again in the spring or we can move on to the next step
and work on funding this project on our own. |
 |
Popcorn:
As of 11/27/07 we have brought in $398.50 and popped 1594 bags of
popcorn. Our expenses have been $160.91 for popcorn supplies. A
big thank you to our volunteers who make this possible! |
 |
Fall Pictures:
We received a check in the amount of $249.50 from Life Touch. This
is our profit from the picture packets that we ordered this year.
Spring picture day is set for February 21, 2008. Again this year
students will get to take the pictures home then the parents pay for what
they keep. We have kept a list of students we had problems with last
year on collecting the money and or pictures, these students will get to
take home 1 small picture for their parents to view. If they choose to
purchase the packet, they will have to pay in advance. This has been
okayed with Life Touch.
We will be asking for volunteers to assist once the time gets closer. |
 |
End of Quarter Incentive
Our Santa Clause will appear on December 18th. He is willing to do
this again, we just need to give him a time, he works another job so he
would need to know exactly when we would need him.
We will schedule Santa for 10:00 to noon and candy canes will be given
out. A $25.00 gift certificate will be given to Dan from a local
restaurant (Village Inn)? |
 |
Staff Luncheon
Last year we had Grinders brought in for the staff luncheon. What
would we like to do this year? What date do we want to have this
on? We need to stick to around $150.00 or less. December 13th
will be the staff luncheon. |

 |
Fall Fund Raiser:
The orders are being mailed off this week. We did not have as good

in so we don't know our exact sales or profits as of yet. |
 |
Popcorn
After the 2nd week of sales we have brought in $102.00 and sold 408 bags
of popcorn, we have spent $106.17 for supplies. We should not need to
buy supplies until at least November. Michelle Sime, Sara Shelb and
Betty Rupe have been helping with popcorn at this time. Volunteers
have been consistent and Sara reports Popcorn Tuesdays have been going well. |
 |
Fall Pictures
Picture packages have come in and have been distributed to
students. Retake day will be Tuesday, October 30th. They
will start around 8:00 A.M. Students may return whole packets and get
a retake if they are not happy with the first one. Also,
students and staff who were absent that day will have their pictures taken
at this time. |

Requests:
1) Pizano benefit: will be October 4th from
5:00 to 7:00 p.m. We will be having a taco supper catered from Rudy's

will go to the Pizano family fund set up at 1st Midwest Bank.
PTO will furnish ice and coolers for the pop, plates and napkins for
desserts.
2) Becky Stender is still looking for
an industrial size fan for the cafeteria. |
 |
New Officer Nominees:

running for us to purchase things that are needed. Mary keeps the
treasurer report on her computer and keeps all documents at school for
anyone to look over.
The slate of candidates was nominated, seconded, and unanimously
elected. Congratulations and thank you for serving! |

 |
Fall Fund Raiser:
Fundraiser will be Sept. 4th - Sept. 18th. We are going with All
American again this year We will make a 40% profit. All American
will print parent letter on outer envelope, they will also deliver all items
to the seller's home. There will be an 1-800 # in their box for the
parents to call if there are ANY problems with their order. Students
will have several chances to earn prizes (all provided from All
American). Top seller from each grade level will get a $10 gift card
to somewhere, everyone who sells at least 1 item will have their name put in
drawing for a display item, anyone who sells 10 or more items will have name
put in drawing for a 36" Shrek doll, plus the cumulative prizes from
the brochure. All teachers who have a 50% or more participation from
their class will get to choose an item of their choice from the catalog. |
 |
Popcorn
We will begin popcorn Tuesday on Sept. 11th. At this time we have
2 parents who are willing to volunteer their time. They are Serafina
Hernandez (Jose Lara) and Michelle Sime (Samantha Sime). I do not
expect them to do this every Tuesday so we will need more parents to
volunteer if we want to continue with this as a fundraiser. Last year
we profited $934.75 from popcorn sales. We need more volunteers to
make this successful. |

Requests:
1) Jennifer Sullivan and Michelle Erickson
would like the PTO to provide a $200.00 Hy-Vee gift card to the 1st grade
for their healthy snack program. Hy-Vee will donate $10 per week to
the program. The money from PTO would be used to help offset the costs
of the program so students can experience healthy snacks once a week.
Motion made to put into the budget. Approved unanimously.
2) Deb Klemme (and everyone who goes to the
cafeteria) has requested the PTO purchase fans for the cafeteria.
Becky Stender and Mary have been checking on prices. Ceiling fans are
out at this time as it would cost too much to have an electrician come in
and do the wiring. The cost of the large industrial fans (like in the
gym) are about $300.00 each. Ideally we would like to have 2 fans in
the cafeteria but are willing to start with 1 fan. Anything that can
help circulate air down there will be appreciated. Becky will be in
charge of getting the fan(s). Motion made to purchase fan not to
exceed $350.00. Approved unanimously.
3) Pizano benefit: Hayes will be
having a supper & basket raffle on October 4th here at Hayes to help
raise funds for the Pizano family. During the summer they lost
everything in a house fire so we would like to help get them back on their
feet. Lisa Lampe, School Councilor will be heading this benefit
up. We are asking for volunteers to help the night of the event and
for donations for the basket raffles. All proceeds made from this
benefit will go to the Pizano family. More information to come. |
