Student Council
The Hayes Student Council is an active group
of students and teachers who are committed to learning and service to our
community. Our student council members exhibit the Hayes code of conduct
at all times. Be kind. Be safe. Be respectful. Be
responsible. Student Council is open to 4th and 5th grade students.
We have sponsored many activity days at Hayes like Pajama Day, Hat Day, and
Freaky Friday. We also sold Holiday Grams so children could send messages
to fellow students.
We provide services to our community by visiting and reading
with the residents at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, as well as cleaning up the
area around our school through the Adopt a Spot program. Hayes Student
Council is committed to being of service to the community around us.

News from the Student Council Meeting Jan. 14th |
Holiday Grams were successful again
this year.
Stuffed Animals for the Holidays
The people at DHS were ecstatic about all the stuffed animals. They
couldn't believe how generous and kind the children at Hayes were. Thank
you again for all the stuffed animals you brought and donated.
Friendship bracelets will be sold in February along
with Val-o-grams. We will also be packaging materials for "Make
Your Own Valentine's". If you have any odds and ends (doilies,
lace, hearts, beads, anything!) the council would love to have it. The
"Make Your Own Valentine's" will sell for .25 and the Val-o-grams will
be .10 each or 3 for .25.
Sweats Day will be on Friday, Jan. 25th. Wear
your favorite sweats and be comfy all day!
A Valentine's Day dance is in the works. It
would be held after ITBS and the dance, if we have it would be to celebrate the
completion of ITBS too!

News from the Student Council Meeting Nov. 26th |
Holiday Grams are little notes that
students may send to their friends. Students may purchase them starting Monday, December 3rd through
Friday, December 14th. They will be sold outside room #21 daily after
school. The cost is .10 cents each or 3 for .25 cents. There are holiday
greetings on the gram and a space to write the message. There will be mail
boxes in the hallways for students to mail their grams and then the Student
Council will deliver them on December 18th.
PJ day will be Tuesday, December 18th to coincide with the second quarter
incentive day.
Stuffed Animals for the holidays, we
will once again be collecting stuffed animals during this holiday season. These
stuffed animals may be either new or gently used, they will be donated to the
Domestic Abuse Shelter. The last day to bring stuffed animals to school
will be on Friday, December 14th. In the past they have been greatly
appreciated.
The Council will have a "store" starting towards the end of
January. We will be selling friendship bracelets, pencils, erasers,
buttons, pens, and healthy food.
Pennies For Patients supports the
Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. They use the money to help patients with their
medical expenses. Last year we collected $189.00 at Hayes, the money was
donated in the name of the students of Hayes Elementary School. This will take place
during the month of February.

Intramurals
Intramurals are offered to all 4th and 5th
graders from 7:15-7:45 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, beginning on
Tuesday, February 6th and continuing through the rest of the school year.
Students who eat breakfast at school will be released to the
cafeteria at 7:30 a.m. Students who have patrol duty will also be
released at 7:30 a.m. All students will be supervised when they arrive at
7:15 for intramurals until morning meeting begins.
This is a great opportunity for students to be involved in
physical fitness activities while having fun!
If you have any questions, please contact Tom Knight at
322-2601.

Recycling
Mrs. Moore's 5th grade class picks up paper
recycling every Tuesday after school. There are 12 students who are
actively involved in the collecting. They have teams that go around to the
rooms after school to collect the recycle bins. They then sort and weigh
each container and the room with the most weight wins the plastic
"hand" chair. Hayes does not yet have their own "hand
chair" but we were able to borrow a chair from Williams Middle School for
3rd quarter. We have one on order, so hopefully it will be here
soon. The plastic "hand" chairs are made from recycled plastics.
