Brian Keppy Memorial Scholarship Trivia Night
Carl and Vicki Keppy of Walcott have established a memorial
scholarship to honor their late son, Brian, a 2008 West High
School graduate, who passed away May 19, 2011. As they approach
the monetary threshold to create a self-sustaining scholarship,
they are conducting a Trivia Night on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 6
p.m.at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1111 – 35 th
Street, Davenport. A table of eight costs $80. Please plan to
support this fundraiser for a very worthy cause.
Great Minds Needs Your Help
As the new year begins, we are making plans to buy tickets and
transportation for Davenport students to attend the wonderful
educational institutions in the area. Have your children visited
the RME, Ballet Quad Cities, Adler Theater, Figge Art Museum,
recycling center, library or VanderVeer Park? If so, think about
helping us out this year with a donation to the Davenport
Schools Foundation. Last year we provided special opportunities
to more than 8,500 students. That was made possible by generous
people like you. Here’s a
link to donate today. THANKS!
DSF Launches Scholarship Season
The Davenport Schools Foundation Scholarship Committee has
posted the new information sheets and applications for 19 DSF-related
scholarships. They awards range from $300 to $12,000. Guidance
counselors at North, Central and West high schools and the
Kimberly Center have the materials available now, and they are
also posted on the DSF Web site scholarship section (below). We
encourage all students to apply for this assistance for college,
career-tech school, apprenticeships and other learning programs
after high school. Students, please remember to ask for letters
of reference and transcripts well in advance of the deadlines.
For more information, contact Norm Bower, DSF development
director, at 336-5004 or via e-mail at

Refurbish ASC
Grounds
As part of the United Way Day of
Caring on Aug. 31, volunteers with the Davenport Schools
Foundation raked, edged, cleaned and raised a bit of dust,
dressing up the grounds of the Davenport Schools’
Administration Service Center at 1606 Brady Street. Click

photos.

“Teachers
teach because they care. Teaching young people is what they do
best. It requires long hours, patience and care.” – Horace Mann
A Tribute to Teachers is an annual initiative of the Davenport
Schools Foundation to give alumni, families and friends the
opportunity to honor that special educator (past or present) of
the Davenport Community Schools. A tribute can be made to honor
any teacher, principal, coach - any educator who made a
difference in their lives!
With this tax-deductible gift to
the Davenport Schools Foundation (suggested minimum of $25 per
tribute), donors will be directly helping students in the
district. They will also be letting those teachers and
administrators know exactly what they have meant to the donor.
For each tribute received, the
Foundation will present the honoree with a special bookmark and
a letter of appreciation with a copy of the note enclosed. The
tributes will be distributed during Teacher Appreciation Week
(held each year in May). Original notes will be compiled and
kept in the
Davenport School Museum for
posterity.
For more information on the
Tribute to Teachers or to make a tribute, please download the
accompanying brochure. Tributes received by April 20 will be
distributed during Teacher Appreciation Week this May!
