The education that takes place in the classrooms of Davenport Community Schools prepares young people for a world that will be very different than the one we live in today. Our instructional reach and social aims are comprehensive and global. Educational reforms over the past several years have made this an exciting and challenging time for our schools. As we strive to meet the individual learning needs of each student through personalized instruction the role of volunteers is magnified. Your commitment to students is vital to our success. Working in partnership with the community is central to our mission. Therefore, we encourage you to explore the many ways you can help educate and support young people. There is a place for you in Davenport Community Schools.

AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps positions are available with Davenport Community Schools. Members will serve on a part-time basis, totalling 900 service hours for one year. The AmeriCorps positions offer flexible hours and can be combined with other jobs and college classes. You must be 18 years of age and have completed some college coursework. You will receive a living allowance of $6,500 for your term of service and an Education Award of $2,775. Americorps offers a great opportunity to gain experience within the Davenport Community Schools, build your resume and serve your community. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.
How to Volunteer
Davenport Community Schools wants your volunteer experience to be pleasant and meaningful. We recognize, also, that all of us share common concern for the safety and security of our children. To help guarantee the highest quality volunteer experience for everyone, we ask that all prospective volunteers complete an application and background check prior to service.

The Davenport Community Schools Volunteer Office wants you to feel comfortable and prepared for your volunteer experience. In partnership with Iowa State University Scott County Extension Office and the Quad Cities Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, we are pleased to provide a series of volunteer training modules to support volunteerism in our schools. For more information on how to participate in these trainings please contact the Volunteer Office at 336-5028.

- The National Mentoring Organization- The National Mentoring Partnership is an advocate for the expansion of mentoring and a resource for mentors and mentoring initiatives nationwide.
- The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service - This site connects you to the State of Iowa and their resources on volunteering. If you are an AmeriCorps volunteer, this sight allows you to access information on other AmeriCorps projects around the state.
- Quad Cities RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) - RSVP (a national volunteer program) provides seniors with the opportunity to volunteer using skills and talents developed over a lifetime, or explore new interests and goals at the non-profit agency of their choice.
- Quad Cities DOVIA (Directors of Volunteers in Agencies)
- Corporation for Community and National Service - Organization overseeing AmeriCorps, SeniorCorps, & Learn and Serve America.
- ARC (American Red Cross) of the Quad Cities
- Points of Light Foundation- Created in 1990 in Washington, D.C., Points of Light is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization set up to engage more people effectively in volunteer community service to help solve serious social programs. (Volunteer programs in all 50 states).
- America’s Promise - America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth, led by retired General Colin L. Powell, is mobilizing people from every sector of American life to build the character and competence of our nation’s youth.
