Diversity Plan
On February 11, 2008, the Davenport School Board
approved policy
501.16 Open Enrollment Between Districts
and adopted a
District Diversity Plan
in response to guidance from the
Iowa Department of Education and changes in Iowa
code to assist in further defining “minority” in the
context of school desegregation efforts. The impetus
for change was the June 28th ruling of
the Supreme Court that race could not be used as the
determining factor in where students go to school.
District officials worked with the State Department
of Education in meeting the state’s expectation that
“each school district shall take affirmative steps
to integrate students in attendance centers and
courses.”
