  • War and Peace Conference

    On September 24th, students from Girls Learn and GSA traveled to St. Ambrose for the 12th Annual War and Peace conference, sponsored by Women for Social Justice.  While at the conference students went to a variety of break-out sessions on topics such as sex trafficking, the role of bystanders, and social awareness.  The keynote speaker for this year’s event was Leymah Gbowee, one of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winners.  She was awarded for her efforts in conjunction with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Tawakkol Karman for their non-violent struggles for women’s safety in Liberia. These incredible woman are credited with playing a pivotal role in ending Liberia’s civil war.
