National History Day
Description of Activity:National History Day (NHD) provides an exciting way for students to study and learn about historical issues, ideas, people, and events. As students research historical subjects, create entries, and compete in a series of contests, they acquire useful historical knowledge and perspective and develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills that will help them analyze information and make effective decisions in their future professional and personal lives. Supervisor:Dan Flaherty and Gail Heninger Time Commitment Required:Students can work in teams or individually on a project. Time commitment depends on the effort and commitment of the individual or team, but once a week for several months prior to the regional competition is the minimal amount of time to do a respectable project. Regional competition occurs in the middle of March, and many teams continue on to state competition, which is in the beginning of May. Important Dates:
Theme for 2007:"Triumph and Tragedy in History" Brainstorming of topics can begin now. A topic should be chosen before October of 2006 to give adequate time for research. Procedures for Joining:Please see Mrs. Heninger or Mr. Flaherty to discuss joining a team or working as an individual. Students usually begin working on their project in the fall.

Quote of the moment: Never give in-never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy. -Sir Winston Churchill |
