NIU Red and Black Fall Classic
Congratulations to The Marching Blue Devils on an outstanding performance at Northern Illinois University’s Red and Black Fall Classic on September 29th. The Marching Blue Devils finished 2nd in class out of 10 and 5th overall out of 33 bands. This is a huge accomplishment as bands from all across Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota competed at NIU. Davenport Central was the only band representing the state of Iowa. Way to go Marching Blue Devils!
Meet Your Legislator Event
On October 2nd, ten Blue Devils attend the annual Meet Your Legislators event sponsored by the DCSD board of directors. Iowa state representatives Winckler, Kurth and Thede, as well as Iowa state senators Lykam, Smith, and Lofgren, were all in attendance. Around 30 people attended the event which started with a large group presentation and then broke into smaller groups. Topics ranged from unequal public school funding, college affordability, the impending teacher shortage, and many other topics. Thanks to all of our representatives, the DCSD board, and all the participants for making this such a meaningful event!

Congratulations to Mr. Sterling Kingery, Central counselor, on being selected to present at the Inaugural Regional School Counselor Academy at WIU-QC campus. For this event, he will be leading area counselors in a session entitled “Facilitating Small Group Interventions in Schools”. During this session he will teach area counselors how to affect change in education through small group sessions utilizing academic, career, and social/emotional strategies and interventions. Thank you to Mr. Kingery for sharing his talents with the Blue Devil community and beyond!
Industrial Tech Visits Construction Sites
Central industrial tech students had the learning experience of visiting Birchwood Fields Learning Center, a project owned by University of Iowa, John Deere, and Russell Construction. The Russell Construction site will be the new Riverstone Headquarters and a 4-story building that will be the new headquarters of Ascentra Credit Union. Both sites provided students with unique perspectives of construction sites and, when completed, will be great additions to Scott County. A special thank you to Jennifer Boyd and Lauren Hargrave, and Russell Construction for organizing the event and lunch for our students.
