    DC Girls Softball NOTES:

    We will be taking tickets for softball at the gate on 38th St (as we used to do before last year).  Parking is available on 38th St as well as in the Brady Stadium lots south of the tennis courts.

    Sat May 19 is “Central Night” at the Quad City STEAMWHEELERS game.  Game time is 7pm.  Please go online for tickets and use the code: DCENT   Central will receive 20% of the profit from sales using that code.  Our cheerleaders will also perform.  Any student-athlete who has received a varsity letter in any sport in this 2017-2018 school year gets in free to the game and gets their name announced at the game.  If you have received your Major Letter and want to attend the game, please stop in to the Activities Office by Wednesday May 16 at 3pm to get your name on the pass list. 

    If you are coming to the game as a major letter winner, you will need to be at the Tax Slayer Center by 5:30pm to get your free ticket at the Will-Call booth.

    ChromeBook turn in is right around the corner.  Seniors will turn in their ChromeBooks on

    May 29th & 30th.  Freshmen, Sophomores, & Juniors will turn in theirs on May 31st

    All ChromeBooks will be disabled on June 6th and will not be turned back on until school starts in the August. 

    All ChromeBooks not returned will be marked “Lost” and the student will be fined $200

    DC You Know!!!

    Quad Cities Science and Engineering Council Physics Challenge Series

    Congratulations to the engineering team of Jeff Buck, Nick Vazquez, Sarah Van Liere, Brandon Howell, and Logan Van Itallie.  These talented students participated in the Quad Cities Science and Engineering Council Physics Challenge Series which was a cardboard boat engineering competition. During the competition,  students worked on the boat as well as demonstrated its functionality on the water. The team received the The Most Innovative Design Award for their boat! After the competition, students visited Grace Engineering for a tour of their design floor. Great job!

    Teachers of the Year

    Congratulations to Brian Heller and Rick Valant on being chosen as Chick-fil-A Teachers of the Year! They got a very special visit from the Chick-fil-A cow and are invited to a chicken dinner and event in honor of amazing area educators. Great job, gentlemen!

    Student Council Donates to Central Pantry

    Thank you to student council for their generous donation to the Central Pantry. The money received through the Life Savings Grant from the spring blood drive was donated to the Central Station Food Pantry to purchase items to provide food for our Central families in need. We are so happy to be supporting our Blue Devil community!     Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award Finalist

    Junior Nia Walker has been selected as one of 15 state finalists for the 2018 Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award. The Hoover Uncommon Student program awards outstanding Iowa teens. Nia’s project is titled Advancement of Minorities in Advanced Placement. She hopes to encourage more minorities to take the AP Challenge and learn firsthand the many rewards of rigorous coursework and working hard to achieve success. To be selected, students submitted project proposals that they intended to complete after being accepted Congratulations, Nia!

    GEAR UP Visits UNI

    Davenport Central GEAR UP students had the opportunity to visit the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Students learned about the University’s unique background and enjoyed a campus tour. The visit ended with a Q&A session with current UNI students on campus life and UNI’s rich culture. Thank you to all the students and staff who made this such a great experience. 

    JROTC Service Learning Projects

    Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) teams have launched their annual Service Learning projects. Teams are scheduled to participate in eight projects throughout the City of Davenport. Projects include efforts such as environmental cleanup at Credit Island, collecting canned food for River Bend Food Bank, and coaching intermediate students at Sudlow in physical fitness. Thank you to all of our cadets for giving back to our community!

    Career Development Conference

    Several students in Mr. Porter’s iJAG class recently attended the Career Development Conference (CDC) Ankeny, IA, at the FFA Enrichment Center. The students were required to attend this conference in business attire as they were networking with several business representatives in the state.  Throughout the day, students attending several workshop opportunities in which they demonstrated their unique employability skills , professionalism, and understanding of the business world,  At the end of the conference, student competitors were judged on their timeliness, their performance in their individual events, and their ability to exhibit a professional attitude.  This year, the students in Mr. Porter’s iJAG took 2nd place overall for the state of Iowa as the Most Profession School!

    Individual awards include:

    • Mikayla Jones- 3rdplace in Creative Arts and Expression
