School District

Davenport Community School District includes: three senior high schools, six intermediate schools, 24 elementary schools, an alternative high school, and parenting program.

Graduation Requirements

Students need a minimum of 20 units in grades nine through twelve to graduate from high school. In grades ten through twelve, a student must earn five terms of credit (2 ½) units in English, two terms (1 unit) in mathematics, two terms (1 unit) in science, four terms (2 units) of social studies, and passing work in physical education for each term of attendance, Physical education courses are not included in the 20 units required for graduation and are not included in the GPA for rank in class. All full credit courses are included in computing GPA and class rank.

Central High School

Central is a four year comprehensive public senior high school with an enrollment of 1400 students and senior class of 300. Central High School was one of the first schools to earn accreditation continuously since that time.

Grade reports are issued at the end of each nine weeks. Class rank is computed at the end of each semester. Only full-credit subjects are used to compute GPA and class rank.

Curriculum

Central offers a comprehensive program of studies with over 180 separate courses to students. Enriched courses are available in many areas with accelerated enriched programs in English, mathematics and science. Full credit courses meet 90 minutes per day, five days per week for a nine week term.

Testing

Central High School is a test center for ACT, SAT and Achievement Tests of The College Board.
