Announcements for 12-17-07

Attention all girls interested in Track and Field: Open gyms will be at 12:30 on Tuesday with Coach Pettigrew. Open gyms will also continue during winter break. See Coach Trujillo in room 627 for a schedule. 12-18

If you are on a Mock Trial team, there will be a brief mandatory meeting on Tuesday, December 18th right after the class dismissal time at 12:05p.m.  We will be meeting in the library and distributing important materials, as well as planning your first team meeting.  If you cannot be there, you must see Mrs. Heninger before you leave for break. 12-18

The Bluedevil Wrestlers were in action Saturday at the Ft Madison Invitational.  Max Mayfield was a champion at 125 lbs, Tommy Mirocha was the runner-up at 119 lbs, Cole Walton was 3rd at 152 lbs, McKinze Jackson was 5th at 160 lbs, and Paul Shumaker was 6th at 130 lbs.  The wrestlers will wrap up pre-Christmas competition by taking on Rock Island and Northeast this Thursday night in Marshall Gym. Congratulations Bluedevil 12-17

Your Central Scholastic Bowl team was in action on Saturday at the Rock Island Invitational Varsity Scholastic Bowl tournament.  Our team won all three matches in our division to win our division and move to the afternoon rounds of competition.  We beat Moline High School which we have never done since we have been competing in Scholastic Bowl tournaments!  We finished the afternoon rounds with four wins and two losses.  Leading our team with tossups answered correctly was Ben Behrendt, followed by Stephen Quist, Austen Laugen, PJ Wiese, Sarah Larson, Emma Grady, and Brendan Iglehart.  Congratulations to our Varsity Scholastic Bowl team!  12-17

JUNIORS & SENIORS MARK YOUR CALENDAR! The 2008 After Prom Committee is sponsoring its first annual QC PROM FASHION EXPO on Sunday, February 3 at the Holzworth Performing Arts Center at Davenport North high school!  Tickets go on sale after winter break,  BUT...  

WE NEED YOU!  This is an open call to all SENIOR girls from Davenport Central....the After Prom committee will be choosing a diversity of models and ALL senior girls are encouraged to pick up an informational flier today at the Activities Office.  Fliers will be available on Monday and Tuesday, in order to be considered you must pick one up today and call!  

In addition, the committee is also in need of student volunteers interested in design, art, fashion or marketing to intern on this year's expo staff.  Please sign up today or Tuesday in the Activities Office.  12-18

Mrs. McCunn's French III students - remember to meet at the 12th street parking lot today for our field trip to the Putnam. You may drop off your books in room 337 before leaving. Don't be late! 12-17

Attention Varsity Volleyball Players stop by the activities office TODAY to pick up your MAC Champions T-shirt. 12-18

Attention all baseball players: if you missed the sign up meeting please go to the activities office to sign up and pick up the information on winter workouts. 12-18

Students, this is a reminder that during the instructional day, there is a district policy that states you may not use radios, CD players, DVD players, televisions, beepers, pagers, or cell phones for personal use unless given written permission from the principal. If a staff member sees an electronic device out during the school day, they will take it away from you and you will have to pick it up after school. 12-18

ROTARY SCHOLARSHIPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE: At least five scholarships (four $8,000 scholarships and one $16,000 scholarship) will be awarded to five students graduating in 2008. At least one student from each of Assumption, Central, North and West will be awarded a scholarship.

The applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA at the end of the junior year in high school. The student must have shown growing interest in college preparatory studies and have been active within the school community.

The application can be found online at www.davenportrotary.org or www.clubrunner.ca/davenport. The applications can be saved, completed, e-mailed to the counselor, saved again, completed by the counselor, and finally e-mailed to the Rotary office at davrotary@netexpress.net.

The applications are in a fillable pdf format and available on December 3, 2007. All applications, hard copy and digital, will be due to the counselor on March 11, 2008. Awards will be given at our regular Rotary Club meeting on April 28, 2008 at noon. Please do not hesitate to contact Chris Lunardi, the Rotary Club Secretary, at 322-3567 with any questions regarding these applications. 12-18

A representative from the Community College of the Air Force will be here at 1:00 pm in the guidance office to talk to students interested in Mechanics or Law Enforcement. Stop and get a pass if interested in visiting with them. 12-14

Attention all seniors that are interested in more specific information on the Davenport Promise initiative, there is a flier in the office to take home and share with your family. 12-18

The Davenport Fire Dept. is currently accepting applications for its Explorer Program. Young adults who are interested in firefighting while serving the Davenport Community are encouraged to contact the Fire Prevention Bureau, for more information. The Explorer program is focused on building a unique and dynamic relationship between young adults and the Fire Department. An orientation meeting will be held on Monday, December 17th at 6:30pm at Central Fire Station. See the Activities Office for more information. 12-17

Attention all students; there will be an early-bird driver education class taught here at Central from January 7th to February 24th. Sign up today, before it fills up!
