Announcements for 12-14-07

Attention all Students: The Blue Devil Booster Club will be in the cafeteria today during all lunches selling Blue Devil Apparel and other spirit items. Don’t forget to stop by and purchase your Blue Devil Christmas! Also, just a reminder; Marshall Maniac shirts are available in the Activities Office for $13.00 during passing time, as well as before and after school. 12-14

The Bluedevil wrestlers were in action last night in Muscatine. At the varsity level, Max Mayfield was dominant in two wins against Muscatine and North Scott, Cole Walton, Mckinze Jackson, and Tommy Mirocha each won their matches against Muscatine. At the JV level, Josh Behrendt and Tay-Tay Tensley had a pair of wins, Josh Benrendt’s both coming by pins, and Dalen Turcsak had a fall. Great Job Blue devils. 12-14

Students, this is a reminder that during the instructional day, there is a district policy that states you may not use radios, CD players, DVD players, televisions, beepers, pagers, or cell phones for personal use unless given written permission from the principal. If a staff member sees an electronic device out during the school day, they will take it away from you and you will have to pick it up after school. 12-18

ROTARY SCHOLARSHIPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE: At least five scholarships (four $8,000 scholarships and one $16,000 scholarship) will be awarded to five students graduating in 2008. At least one student from each of Assumption, Central, North and West will be awarded a scholarship.

The applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA at the end of the junior year in high school. The student must have shown growing interest in college preparatory studies and have been active within the school community.

The application can be found online at www.davenportrotary.org or www.clubrunner.ca/davenport. The applications can be saved, completed, e-mailed to the counselor, saved again, completed by the counselor, and finally e-mailed to the Rotary office at davrotary@netexpress.net.

The applications are in a fillable pdf format and available on December 3, 2007. All applications, hard copy and digital, will be due to the counselor on March 11, 2008. Awards will be given at our regular Rotary Club meeting on April 28, 2008 at noon. Please do not hesitate to contact Chris Lunardi, the Rotary Club Secretary, at 322-3567 with any questions regarding these applications. 12-18

A representative from the Community College of the Air Force will be here at 1:00 pm in the guidance office to talk to students interested in Mechanics or Law Enforcement. Stop and get a pass if interested in visiting with them. 12-14

Attention all seniors that are interested in more specific information on the Davenport Promise initiative, there is a flier in the office to take home and share with your family. 12-18

The Davenport Fire Dept. is currently accepting applications for its Explorer Program. Young adults who are interested in firefighting while serving the Davenport Community are encouraged to contact the Fire Prevention Bureau, for more information. The Explorer program is focused on building a unique and dynamic relationship between young adults and the Fire Department. An orientation meeting will be held on Monday, December 17th at 6:30pm at Central Fire Station. See the Activities Office for more information. 12-17

Attention all students; there will be an early-bird driver education class taught here at Central from January 7th to February 24th. Sign up today, before it fills up! Registration forms are available in the guidance office or in Mr. Jurgena's room; #529. 12-18

Newspaper students your stories are past due. Some 5th-9th block students have not checked in with anything for the week. The paper needs to be complete Friday so it can go to template Sunday. If you don't want blank space with your name get to the lab with your materials. The lab will be open until 4 today and Friday. Editors, the Lab will be open Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. 12-14

Attention all baseball players: if you missed the sign up meeting please go to the activities office to sign up and pick up the information on winter workouts. 12-18

This is a reminder that the Varsity Scholastic Bowl team is going to the Rock Island Varsity tournament this Saturday, December 15th.  We will meet at Rock Island High School at 8:40 a.m.  Competition begins at 9:00 a.m.   Mrs. Heninger has directions for those who are going, so come pick them up in room 501.  See you there! 12-14

If any student still has a copy of Girl With a Pearl Earring checked out from Mrs. Heninger, please return it to her today.12-14

Attention Freshmen Girls Basketball players you will have practice today from 4:15 to 5:30.12-14

Congratulations to the boys swim team on their first place against West last night with a score of 105 to 59. Sam Manning and Noah Truesdell had 4 first place finishes and Nick Eddy had 3 first place finishes. The Junior Varsity also won with a score of 75 to 22. 12-14

Attention all Blue Devils starting today no one will be allowed in the gym after school unless you are practicing for a sport. If you have a late practice you need to go home and come back later.
