Announcements for 10-26-09

  • We’re in the playoffs ladies and gentlemen. Would you like to attend the football game? Central Football playoff student bus tickets can be purchased for $10.00 in the activities office before, or after school and in between classes. The Student Fan bus will leave Central High School (by the smoke stacks) at 4:30 pm on Wednesday October 28th and head to Dubuque Hempstead for the playoff game. Note: the cost of the bus ticket does not include your ticket to get into the game.

  • Game tickets will be available in the activities office tomorrow for $8.00 or you can purchase them at the game. We will announce the time on when we will start selling the tickets.

  • The girls swimmers placed 4th at the JV Conference Invitational. The girls had some amazing swims. Jesse Glasgow won the 50 and 100 free, Ashton Dooley took second in the 100 breast, Meghan Ryan won the 200 free and placed third in the 500 free, Sarah Foster took fourth in the 200 IM and third in the fly and Jesse Mumm took 4th in the diving. The team of Ashton Dooley, Petra Hahn, Meghan Ryan and Jesse Glasgow won the 400 free relay. Ashton Dooley, Meghan Ryan, Katie Voigts and Jesse Glasgow got 4th in the 200 Free Relay and Yesenia Cook, Katie Voigts, Sarah Foster and Emma Jurgena got 6th in the 200 Medley Relay. Way to go girls! What a great finish to a fantastic season!

  • Congratulations to the following students for being selected for the 2009 Iowa All-State Choir:

    These students will participate in the all-state festival on November 20th and 21st on the campus of Iowa State University. They will sing in a chorus of 600 students representing some of the finest vocal talent in the state of Iowa. Congratulations. 10/26/09

  • Congratulations to the following band students for being selected to the 2009 Iowa All-State Honor Band: Allison Vandecar, horn; Jennifer Keys, bassoon; Tori Quist, clarinet; and Becky Hixon as an alternate on clarinet. Another congratulations to Danielle Kimler for being selected to the All-State Orchestra on horn.

  • Men’s swim team preseason swimming and water polo has started 5:30 – 7am this week and team starts November 9th, sign up with Coach Hatfield or talk to a swimmer.

  • Attention all Football players. The playoff t-shirts you ordered are in. Please bring your 6$ to Coach Roering in Room 519 sometime today or stop by and make arrangements.

  • Anyone interested in practicing some español after school today should stop by Room 331. Spanish club is sponsoring an informal conversation group. ALL levels of Spanish are welcome. Hope to see you there!

  • Petra: Hey, Ian- are you going Trick or Treating this Friday? Ian: Um, no. My mom says I’m too old, but I really want to. Petra: How about TRUNK – or – Treating, then? Ian: What’s that? Petra: Well, you and a group of your friends dress up and go from house to house collecting cans for the Food Drive on Trick –or-Treat night. Ian: Sounds fun- what do I do with the food I collect? Petra: Bring it to Central on Monday and take it to Room 331 so Student Council can box it up for delivery.

  • Attention all A term lifeguard students see Mrs. Hansen in the gym to get your certification cards.

  • Attention yearbook staff—We will be meeting tonight right after school. Be on time! We will be going over new picture schedules, ad sales and yearbook week.

  • The Varsity Scholastic Bowl team is practicing tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. All junior and senior team members should attend.

  • Seniors, seniors, seniors—it is time to remind your parents that yearbook baby ads are due by Wednesday Nov. 4. Information packets were mailed home about four weeks ago and are now due. If your family needs a new packet they are in the main office near the brightly colored baby ad box. Ads can be turned in to the main office. See Mrs. Jasper if you have questions. GET THOSE BABY ADS TURNED IN!

  • Attention, juniors and seniors, there will not be open campus or commons on October 28. Students are to report to their third block classes. We will notify you when commons and open campus will begin again.

  • Central’s book club is ready for our next book! We are joining forces with Spanish Club to read a relevant Mexican-American story. Our second book of the year is called The House on Mango Street and is written by Sandra Cisneros. The House on Mango Street is made up of 44 short character sketches and stories called vignettes. Cisneros draws on her rich Latino heritage and seduces the reader with precise, spare prose, and unforgettable characters. If you are interested in getting a copy of this book, come quickly to room 501, as there are only 15 copies. We will discuss the book on Monday, November 16th after school in room 501 so you have about a month to read the book. Central, let's get reading!

  • Have you wanted to learn sign language? Here’s your chance. Students sign class will be from 1:40-2:35 every Wed. in room 415 starting November 4th. There will be a short meeting in room 415 Wednesday Oct 28th at 1:40 pm or see Mr. Gluck.

  • All Army JROTC Cadets please remember the second Marksmanship class is today after school. Please be on time. The test review will be on 2 NOV 2009

  • There will be an open gym Tues Oct 27th from 6-7:30pm for Frosh and soph boys planning on going out for basketball this year.

  • You've heard of American Idol- you know, the show with Simon, Paula (now Ellen) and ... the other one. Well, we've got our own Blue Devil version. That's right, we've got Central Idol. Get your dollars ready for next Wednesday's Central Idol aud. during 4th block. You'll have the chance to vote for the next Central Idol. Will it be Mackenzie, Whitney, Vanessa, Brianna or Becca?

  • Make sure you're bringing in your spare change to your first block classes! Next Friday is the day when your teachers must "Tally" before they "Teach". Everybody wins- you get some down time, Central gets more money to put towards the Food Drive, and the Hungry get fed!

  • Ok, we know the song told you all to put your cans UP, but what we really want is for you to bring them in to your 3rd block class. STUCO will come around to collect food this Friday. Remember: no glass or produce. Whatever class has the most food donated wins a prize. Maybe it'll be yours!

  • Spanish Club will meet today after school in room 331. We will have an informal conversation group- all levels of Spanish are welcome. Bring a friend!

  • Attention Central Students: There are still openings in the November 2nd Driver Education class at Central High School. Registration forms can be picked up in the guidance office.

  • Drama Club will be meeting in room 417 Monday, November 2nd. This is an important meeting as we will be voting for the official officers for the 2009-2010 school year as well as going over our fundraiser and discussion on our first activity. It is not too late to join the club. Be sure to make this meeting if you are interested in becoming an officer of the club or voting on who you want to represent you in the club. Remember, Monday, November 2nd right after school in room 417.

  • A term J-write students don’t forget to pick up your stringbooks.

  • All Newspaper students, assignments are posted on the door. Questions see Buttleman.

  • B Term 14th block newspaper students, mandatory check in is Tuesday. Be there.

  • Publications students who still need to bring money for Iowa City Thursday need to get it in. Those who will be performing need to see Sam Hayes for practice time run through.

  • Bricolage is accepting art, poetry, fiction, drama, music, essays, and photography through Dec.1. The theme is Power. Bring items to Kemper or turn work into Sam Hayes, Danielle Kimler, or Sarah Landsteiner.

  • Students attending the state journalism convention, remember you need to be at school at 6:45 a.m.Thursday.
