Announcements for 10-18-07

Students all final opt out forms are due on Friday by the end of the school day in the guidance office. There will be no exceptions. Be sure and have your parents sign your form before you turn it in. 10-19

The following students need to stop by room 501 and see Mrs. Heninger today - Abby Mark, Lena Connor, and Brittney Wilson.  10-18

All girls interested in being part of this year's Track & Field team should see Coach Rangel in room 318 or 314, or see Coach Trujillo in room 627. 10-22

We will have representatives from Scott Community College at 11:00 am in the guidance office today. Stop and get a pass if interested in visiting with them. 10-18

We will have a representative from the Air Force in the cafeteria today during all lunches. 10-18

Congratulations to the students in the Central Orchestra Program, CHS Symphony Strings, Orchestra Only, and 9th Grade String Orchestra for an excellent concert last night. Special thanks to soloists Max Mayfield, Brian Higdon, Kayleigh Orcutt, and harpist Christine Jensen for solid performances. BRAVO! 10-18

Just a reminder to Spanish Club officers that there will be a brief meeting immediately after school TODAY in Room 331. We need to plan our fiesta. 10-18

All AJROTC Cadets- the first drill team meeting will be held next Thursday at 1130 in Room 256. 10-18

The Varsity and Junior Varsity Men's and Women's Bowling Team will begin tryouts this Friday, October 19th, at Miller Time Bowl beginning 3:30pm.  Anyone wishing to join the team should attend and bring $5.00 for three games of bowling and shoe rental if needed. 10-18

Tonight’s football game is in the bag… the drawstring bag that is. They’re for sale tonight for just $5 each at the DC Football Moms table. These bags are great for carrying books, gym clothes, snacks and small gifts for the person who reads announcements. The only thing that won’t fit in the bag is the Wise guy’s pizza that’s being delivered to our Best Seat in the House winner for tonight’s game Seth Kauffman! Don’t forget to come early to get your window cling thanks to Eric Howe’s dad and Eye Care Pavilion. Go Blue Devils!

The next Freshman Scholastic Bowl practice is Friday, October 19th at 7:00 a.m.  See you there! 10-18

Our next book club meeting will be Monday, November 12th after school.  We will be discussing The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.  You will need to find your own copy of the book at the public library, as Mrs. Heninger does not have enough for everyone.  If you have not yet read this book, you will LOVE it!  The movie is due to be released December 14th, so this is a MUST READ before you see the movie.

Attention Central students and staff, do you know any God spell cast or crew members? If you would like to support them with a Break-A-Leg ad that will be seen in the program, pick up a form in the main office. The cost will be $5 per ad. Your ad and money will be due by this Friday, October 19th and should be given to Mrs. McMahon in room 411. 10-19

Attention all students who love to sing gospel!! Gospel choir will be meeting in the music room, Room 251, after school, 3:40-3:10, this Thursday, Oct. 18th. We will not have rehearsal on Thursday, week of finals. 10-18

Do you like history?  Do you like to work with your friends on challenging and stimulating topics?  Are you interested in making historical documentaries and films?  How about writing a play about a specific event in history and then acting in it?  Do you want to win awards and get the chance to compete in Washington DC?   If so, you should consider participating in National History Day competition.  Our first meeting will take place on Thursday, October 18th right after school in room 501.  Mr. Flaherty and Mrs. Heninger are the club sponsors and want to encourage everyone to come and find out about National History Day. At the meeting, we will be discussing the theme for this year, as well as planning several field trips to University libraries for research.  We hope to see you this Thursday afternoon. 10-18

Are you a freshman or sophomore? Are you interested in going to school beyond high school? Not sure how to do that? The University of Iowa Upward Bound program may be able to help. This program helps students who want to receive education or training at ANY school beyond high school. Interested?
