Announcements for 10-01-07

Are you a Central Minority student who has an interest in politics? Are you wanting to have your voice heard but don’t know how? We are looking for a few good students who have a desire to make change and influence state law by being a part of the Second Iowa Youth Congress. If you are interested, come to the meeting this Thursday at the beginning of second block in the auditorium. 10-4

This is a reminder that the Freshmen Scholastic Bowl team will be practicing this Thursday morning, October 4th, at 7:00 a.m. in room 501.  If you are unable to attend, please let Ms. Heninger know.  New members are always welcome and encouraged to try this challenging game. 10-3

All Davenport Schools families are invited to attend an informational meeting about the Davenport Promise, an exciting proposal which could provide a college education for all area children. The session is set for Thursday, October 4th at 7 p.m., at the Adler Education Center on the Genesis East campus at 1227 E. Rusholme in Davenport. 10-1

We will have representatives from University of Tulsa, Ok at 10:00 am today and George Washington University, DC at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday October 2nd in the guidance office today. Stop and get a pass if interested in visiting with them. 10-1

If you were at the football game Friday night, you saw Owen Ruiz and two lucky friends enjoying dinner from Carlos O’Kelly’s while you had nothing but a tired old hot dog. Owen was one smart guy to spend a dollar to win last week’s Best Seat in the House Raffle. This week’s menu includes food and drinks from Applebee’s. Stop by the DC Football Moms table to enter -- or you’ll have to make friends quickly with this week’s raffle winner. 10-1

Tomorrow, Oct. 2 there will be a presentation on careers for juniors in the auditorium.  An announcement to dismiss juniors from their second block class will be made.  Juniors will return to second block after the career presentation. 10-1

Congratulations to the Freshman Volleyball team for their performance in Saturday's Rock Island Invitational tournament. The girls were the Bronze bracket champions after a long day of play and some very exciting games. The team hosts Muscatine today at 4:00 in Marshall Gym, Coach Darland and the girls invite you to come out this afternoon and support your freshman volleyball team. 10-1

Congratulations to the boys cross country team for another fine performance last Saturday at the Alleman Invite. The fresh-soph team finished second, one point behind Rock Island. Medaling in the race were Jonathon O'Leary 14th place, Mark Reiter 10th, Nate Coonts 5th, Fabian Briesmoore 4th and setting a new course record at the fresh-soph division was Sebastian Pena finishing 1st. Congratulations. Stop by the main office and check out the trophy the team brought home. Go Central! 10-1

A reminder to both the girls and boys cross country teams tomorrow's practice Tuesday 10/2, will be at 4:00 pm at West Lake. If you need transportation see Coach Tandy or Coach Peiffer. 10-1

Mid-term Grade Report are available in the main office for students who did not get them at parent-teacher conferences. 10/01

You’ve asked about it. Your parents may have told you about it. Your college application is crying for it. What is it? It’s the CHS Spanish Club- it’s back and better than ever. Any CHS student who has been or who is currently a Spanish student is invited to join.
