Announcements for 09-08-08

  • Shades of Success/Boys to Men meets every Wednesday at 1:40-2:30pm in room 419. You may join at any time. Bring a friend and come join the fun and success will be your reward! 9-10
  • Today that cheer practice is canceled!!!!!  Next practice will be Thursday 9/11 @ 4:00pm at Brady Street. 9-8
  • Attention Seniors: The lists of those who qualify for open campus are posted outside the office and outside room 425. Those who have qualified for open campus but have not turned in a form must do so by 7:30 Wednesday to take open campus this week. The forms are in the office and in room 419. Those students who qualified this term and turned in a form last term will not need to turn in a second form. Not everyone who qualified “D” term of last year qualified again for “A” term of this year, so check the list to be sure. If you do not turn in the form you will be required to be either in commons or in a guided study class. 9-10
  • Newspaper students your stories are due both in the computer and hard copy to Buttleman by 3p.m. today no exceptions unless given by Buttleman. 9-8
  • Publications students there will be a Parents of Publications meeting concerning state and nationals Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Kemper. If you are interested in attending you and your parents should be there. Commit date is Thursday. 9-9
  • Coming to all lunches Friday- bring your pennies to watch your peers perform. It's a Constitution Day political rally of issues in honor of Constitution Day. Don't forget to wear your red, white and blue. This event is sponsored by Quill & Scroll as is the mock election second block Monday. As in past years pennies collected from the skits go to the Student Press Law Center. Publications students please notify your third block teachers and Lindsay Whalen what extra lunch you will be performing. 9-12
  • This weekend the Lady D's volleyball team took 4th place at the Cedar Rapids Invite.  Great Job ladies!  If you would like to see your Central volleyball team in action, the girls play their first home game tonight against Burlington.  The freshmen play at 4:30, the sophomores and JV play at 5:45 and the Varsity play at 7. $5 will get you in to see all of the games.  Come support your volleyball team. 9-8
  • Congratulations to the boys cross country team for their fine performance at the P V Invite last Saturday. The team finished 8th overall out of a field of 16, which among were some of the best in Iowa. Top performances were Robbie Pogue, Chris Capper and Alex Trujillo at the Varsity level, Mark Reiter and Scott McKillip at the Sophomore level. Keep up the good work gentlemen. 9-8
  • Reminder to Yearbook staff members—tonight at 2:45 is our regular Monday weekly meeting in Kemper. We have several things to discuss so be on time so our meeting can get done in a timely manner. 9/8
  • Publications Students: Both newspaper and yearbook labs will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays until 4:30 unless otherwise posted. Use these times to get things done—Make your deadlines! 9/11
  • The Varsity Scholastic Bowl team will be having their first practice on Tuesday, September 9 at 7:00 a.m. in room 501.  This practice is for juniors and seniors only. We hope to see all of the current Varsity members there, but we are always looking for new members.  If you think you might want to try this academic trivia game, please come to our meeting on Tuesday.  We have a lot of fun and expand our knowledge at the same time.  See Mrs. Heninger in room 501 if you want more information. 9-8
  • It's that time again! Chess Club meets right after school on Mondays in room 509. We have a very talented group this year. Want to join? Come to room 509 to check it out. Everyone is welcome from beginners to Chess masters. We'll look forward to seeing you in room 509 after school today and every Monday for chess club. 9-8
  • Congratulations to the Blue Devil Girls Swimmers on their performance this past Saturday at the Dubuque Ram Relays.  The 300 Butterfly relay team of Mary Betsworth, Kathleen Gaertnier, and Katie Beale got 3rd place.  Another top finish was in the 1000 freestyle relay with Mary Betsworth and Ellie Wilder who got 5th place.  The Blue Devils will host their first home meet this Tuesday against Burlington at 5:00.  Hope to see you there. 9-8
  • Attention all Freshman Girls. We are looking for Freshmen girls basketball players for the upcoming season. Open gyms are currently being held Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6 - 7:45. Please come tonight and see Coach Eagle tonight in the new gym. 9-8
  • Wrestlers listen up, there is open mat at 6pm tonight in the wrestling room. See Coach Ehlinger with any questions. 9-8
  • Attention students: This year we will be holding a Mini-Olympics to kick off Homecoming Spirit Week. The activities will take place on Sunday, September 28 at 4pm by the baseball field at Brady Street. Sign-up sheets are outside the LMC and outside the main office. Each team will of 8 members. Hey Blue Devil staff, we challenge you to come up with a team. 9-9
  • Cool weather is on it's way. You will need hats, scarves and mittens before you know it. Come learn how to make your own snuggly sweaters and afghans at the fiber arts club starting Tuesday, September 9th.
