Announcements for 08-20-09

  • The Yearbooks for the 2008-2009 school years will be available for pick up tomorrow (Friday) right after school until 2:00 in Kemper hall room 12. You must sign for the book when you pick it up. See you then.
  • Attention all Blue Devils. Starting Monday Aug. 24th you may not park in the upper 12th street parking lot or the lower south lot without a parking pass. There are no parking passes left, they have all been sold. Any person parking in these lots without a pass, will be ticketed and towed. If you have a parking pass you need to park in a marked yellow spot. If you do not park in a marked spot you will lose your pass. If you park in the upper 12th street lot you need to park north of the long gold painted line. The parking spaces closest to the school are for the teachers. Anyone parking south of that line will lose their pass.
  • Hey Senior's need a senior class t-shirt? See Mrs. Hansen in the gym to purchase one. The shirts are $10.
  • Donuts and Bagels will be back again this year. We will start selling them August 31st.
  • There is a mandatory meeting of all Newspaper students immediately after 4th block today (Thursday) in Kemper 14. This concerns network 5th block status, trip changes, permission forms and delivering all summer assignments. Editors plan on staying to complete the paper.
  • SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE???? Or sing, act, or even just stand in the bright lights on the big stage?!?!? Then we want YOU! Auditions for Central High School’s all-school musical, The Secret Garden, are coming up on Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday, Aug. 26. Auditions will be held in Kahler Auditorium both days at 3:00. ALL STUDENTS are welcome to come audition for this show. Students will be asked to sing and act during the audition process. Please be prepared to stay for at least an hour based on the number of students who audition. Bring your friends and COME AUDITION! More information will follow on how to become involved in the musical’s pit orchestra and stage crew.
  • The Central varsity baseball team finished with a record of 22 wins and 8 losses this summer. The Blue Devils advanced to the state tournament in Des Moines for the third time in the last four years. Even though the team lost in the first round of the state tournament, they had a great season. The following players earned post-season honors: Trevor Kenyon was 2nd team all-conference, first team all-district, and first team all-state. Nick Bakeris was second team all-conference and 2nd team all-district, Tony Bakeris was first team all-conference and 2nd team all-district, and Aaron Wailand was 2nd team all-conference. Colin Cartee, who played in the MAC vs. the Western Big Six all-star game, was all-conference honorable mention along with Jake Lafrenz and Erik Irons.
  • A huge congratulations goes out to the following Army JROTC cadets who exceeded the standards and demonstrated superb performance at this years annual State of Iowa Army JROTC Leadership Course at Camp Dodge/ Johnston, Iowa. They are Ciara Severson from Davenport West, Paige Gomez from Davenport Central, Ryan Mena from Davenport Central, Jeffery Odens from Davenport West, Megan Watson from Davenport West, and Ryan Wilson from Davenport Central. Ciara Severson was selected as the top cadet over all at this years Leadership camp. Paige Gomez was the top female on the physical fitness test. Ryan Mena was the top male on the physical fitness test. 200 Army JROTC Cadets from across Iowa came together the first week of August to compete and train in many different Leadership activities. They include the Leadership reaction course, rappelling, water safety, helicopter orientation, land navigation and map reading, building rope bridges, confidence and obstacles courses, drill and ceremony, and many others. The cadets experienced physical fitness challenges and tests, problem solving challenges, leadership development classes, and communication improvement activities. If you want to experience the best leadership training in the State of Iowa- then join Army JROTC now. Reserve your slot for next years outstanding leadership course.
