Announcements for 4-29-08Neither wind, nor rain, nor sleet or snow will keep our Blue Devil lady golfers from completing their rounds...of golf. Under brutal conditions, the girls hit the tees at 9:00am at Burlington yesterday. 6 hours later they finished the 14 team tournament tied for 1st place with last years state champions Washington High School. Although they lost in the tie breaker they still proved they are one of the top teams in the state. Leading the way for Central was Megan Chitty with an 84 good enough for 3rd place. Brenna Haskins followed with a 87 for 6th and Meagan Bewley placed 9th with a score of 90. Lizz Rickert finished our scoring with a 101 for a team score of 363. Our season record now stands at 27 and 2. Go Blue!!! Just a reminder to the boys track team members going to Linn Mar today. You are dismissed at 1:45 from class and the bus leaves Brady at 2:15 4-29 Hey Key Club members! Tomorrow is parent/teacher conferences, and you know what that means - fire up those ovens and start baking! You can drop off your individually-wrapped baked goods in Mr. Kuttler's room by the cafeteria any time tomorrow, or just bring them when you come to volunteer tomorrow night. Students do you have a younger brother or sister entering 4th to 9th grade this year? The 10th Annual ACAP Summer Journalism Academy will run June 9-13. Enrollment is limited. 4-29 Not to worry Blue Devils The Celebration River Cruises has informed us that the flooding waters of the Mighty Mississippi will not keep us from our Prom. The boat will still sail from 7-10. And an additional announcement: Top hats, Baseball Caps and Canes will not be allowed on the boat. So please leave them in your car or they will be held at the door until the dance is over. 5-1 There will be a Drama Club meeting immediately after school on Thursday. All one-act directors must be in attendance or your one-act will not be performed as scheduled. This is also an important meeting for all cast members. 5-1 Hey Blue Devils, the US Army, 389th Army Band is performing tonight from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Marshall Gym. Come and enjoy an evening of patriotic, classical and film music. Get your free tickets at the Activities Office. Open to the public. 4-29 Juniors and Seniors, make plans now to attend the 2008 After Prom party at North Park Mall. Last year, more than 700 Central and North students had the time of their lives competing in games, running the obstacle course, visiting palm readers and caricature artists, and watching the embarrassing and hysterical antics of hypnotized friends. This year, After Prom will include frisbee golf and a money machine! More than 100 prizes will be given away to lucky students. You might win cash, electronics, and a refrigerator for your college dorm, and so much more. Winning is easy. It's all FREE and begins at 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 3rd. You may register on the boat at Prom OR at the mall if you won't be attending the dance. Just bring your ID. Make the most of your junior and senior year by attending After Prom! 5-1 Students, who are planning on going to Mexico and Costa Rica, please make sure your registration form and deposit are turned in to Mrs. Preciado or Mrs. Trimble by Wed. April 30. You can still register in the fall, but the price will be higher. 4-30 This July, St Ambrose University is offering a 10-day Youth Leadership Program for juniors and seniors. The program focus is on media, politics and leadership and is designed to be high tech and high touch with a youthful feel. Youth leaders, as well as those from the media and politics will present and interact with students. The program offers three college credits in political science. For more information please visit the St. Ambrose website at - www.SAU.edu. 5-7 Attention Students: Prom tickets are now on sale in the Activities office. The cost is $20.00 a ticket in advance and $22.00 at the door, the first 500 students will receive a party favor. Remember seniors all fines and fees must be paid in order to purchase you tickets. TICKETS WILL ONLY BE SOLD BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL AND DURING PASSING TIME THROUGH THURSDAY, PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. 5-2 Any Junior who would like to be a Senior Class Officer for next year see Mrs. Hansen in the gym or at all lunches this week to get an application. You can be an Officer and also be in Student Council. Applications for parking passes for next school year are available from Mrs. Hansen in the gym or at all lunches this week. The parking passes will be given out through a lottery with seniors getting first priority. There are only 216 spots available so get your application today. Seniors the senior class picnic is Wednesday May 14th at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. This event is FREE. Stop by the activities office to get your ticket. All fees and fines must be paid and all detentions served or you will not be allowed to attend. If you chose not to go to the picnic you must come to school or you will be marked truant. If you need a ride to the picnic see Mrs. Hansen in the gym. You need to be at the Fairgrounds by 9:00. Seniors going to the senior class picnic get your volleyball and softball teams turned in to Mr. Swetalla, EJ Hicks or Dallas Burke as soon as possible. All games are coed. For volleyball you must have 3 guys and 3 girls on the court at all times and for softball you must have 5 guys and 5 girls on the field at all times. So get them turned in today. Attention all Senior Class Officers there is a mandatory meeting this Wednesday after school in the cafeteria.5-1 If you are interested in taking an AP online course next year, you need to see Mrs. Heninger in room 501 in order to get registered. If you are considering taking a one-semester course, you will have to pay a registration fee in order to register. However, the year long courses are still available at no cost. Come see Mrs. Heninger for more information. 4-30 All National History Day state qualifiers need to return their permissions slips to Mrs. Heninger. Also, you will be presenting your projects to Mr. Flaherty's second block class on Wednesday, so bring all of your costumes and materials. We will be in the auditorium for our presentation on Wednesday. 4-30 All students taking the AP Calculus exam on May 7 need to meet in room 617 today after school for a short meeting. 4-29 The Operation Prom program will take place this Thursday, May 1st. This reenactment demonstrates what may happen when students attempt to drive while intoxicated. This reenactment takes place down in the south parking lot, so there will be NO PARKING in the south lot on Thursday. Please plan for alternative parking on Thursday. Also, as the weather may be cold, please dress accordingly. 4-29 Please check the window outside the main office to see if you’re going to be recognized at our freshmen/sophomore honors program on Monday, May 12th. Please check the spelling of your name and your GPA by Friday. If you see a mistake, see Mrs. Lohf in the Main Office for changes. Tonight in George Marshall Gym starting at 7pm is a free concert highlighting the National Army Band. Please invite all you know to attend this very special event at Davenport Central! Tomorrow are our last conferences of the school year from 4-7pm in the Central Café. Please encourage your families to attend to pick up midterm grades and meet with your teachers. Attention all students who drive to school. This Thursday, May 1st, the south parking lot will be closed for Operation Prom. All students and faculty who park in the South lot are going to have to find a different place to park this Thursday. Any student bring a non-Central student to prom, must have a permission slip turned into the Activities Office by this Thursday. Tickets are on sale now for Prom. There have been concerns that because of the downtown flooding there will be issues with Prom being on the Celebration Belle, however, we have called and received confirmation from several sources, Prom is still going to be on the boat! You should arrive early to the boat, loading starts at 6:00pm and we will leave the dock at 7pm SHARP! Reminder to all students, there is no school this Friday! LAST ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE DAY: At this time, all seniors need to report to the auditorium for a 30 minute final senior meeting.4-29
