Announcements for 4-28-08Congratulations to all of the Knowledge Master Open participants last week. Our freshmen Scholastic Bowl team placed 5th in the state in their division which is two places above where they placed last fall. Our freshmen team consisted of: Neal Crooks, Hannah McAtee, Jonathon O'Leary, Aubrey Kall, Courtney Brokloff, Mary Warhank, Sarah Rudnick, Teresa Diggs, Liz Meade, and Peter Elkin. Our Varsity Scholastic Bowl team led by seniors Ben Behrendt, Stephen Quist, and Nick DeLaCruz placed 10th in the state which is a fabulous finish. Our team beat both North and West by 20-25 places. Congratulations to our talented Central Scholastic Bowl teams on a great year. 4-28 If you are interested in taking an AP online course next year, you need to see Mrs. Heninger in room 501 in order to get registered. If you are considering taking a one-semester course, you will have to pay a registration fee in order to register. However, the year long courses are still available at no cost. Come see Mrs. Heninger for more information. 4-30 All National History Day state qualifiers need to return their permissions slips to Mrs. Heninger. Also, you will be presenting your projects to Mr. Flaherty's second block class on Wednesday, so bring all of your costumes and materials. We will be in the auditorium for our presentation on Wednesday. 4-30 All students taking the AP Calculus exam on May 7 need to meet in room 617 today after school for a short meeting. 4-29 The Operation Prom program will take place this Thursday, May 1st. This reenactment demonstrates what may happen when students attempt to drive while intoxicated. This reenactment takes place down in the south parking lot, so there will be NO PARKING in the south lot on Thursday. Please plan for alternative parking on Thursday. Also, as the weather may be cold, please dress accordingly. 4-29 Newspaper students needing contact hours and all editors. Proofing will be after school today. All publications seniors. If you do not have your graduation column in, it is officially late. Get it to Tim Corlett or David Whalen immediately. Quill & Scroll officers need to see Ms Buttleman Malcolm by after school today concerning the publications banquet. Students do you have a younger brother or sister entering 4th to 9th grade this year? The 10th Annual ACAP Summer Journalism Academy will run June 9-13. See David Whalen or Jessica Seier to pick up a registration form. Enrollment is limited. Good Job to the Army JROTC cadets on their hard work at the Quad Cities JROTC challenge Saturday at Rock Island. The Cadets won in Volleyball, Soccer, War ball, Football, and got a 4:34 in the mile relay. Way to go Cadets. We will have representative from Indian Hills Community College at 11:00 am in the guidance office today. Stop and get a pass if interested in visiting with them. Any Junior who would like to be a Senior Class Officer for next year see Mrs. Hansen in the gym or at all lunches this week to get an application. You can be an Officer and also be in Student Council. Applications for parking passes for next school year are available from Mrs. Hansen in the gym or at all lunches this week. The parking passes will be given out through a lottery with seniors getting first priority. There are only 216 spots available so get your application today. Seniors the senior class picnic is Wednesday May 14th at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds. This event is FREE. Stop by the activities office to get your ticket. All fees and fines must be paid and all detentions served or you will not be allowed to attend. If you chose not to go to the picnic you must come to school or you will be marked truant. If you need a ride to the picnic see Mrs. Hansen in the gym. You need to be at the Fairgrounds by 9:00. Seniors going to the senior class picnic get your volleyball and softball teams turned in to Mr. Swetalla, EJ Hicks or Dallas Burke as soon as possible. All games are coed. For volleyball you must have 3 guys and 3 girls on the court at all times and for softball you must have 5 guys and 5 girls on the field at all times. So get them turned in today. Attention all Senior Class Officers there is a mandatory meeting this Wednesday after school in the cafeteria. Congratulations to those members of the girls track & field team who competed at the Drake Relays last weekend. The 800 medley relay team of Ebonie Butler, Tiffany Taylor, Alexis Mitchell, and Nikki Miller finished 2nd in their heat and 7th overall, with the 7th-best mark in school history! And in the long jump, Alexis Mitchell turned in her 2nd-best performance ever in earning a 6th-place medal! Congratulations, ladies! Hey Blue Devils, the US Army, 389th Army Band is performing Tuesday night, April 29, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Marshall Gym. Come and enjoy an evening of patriotic, classical and film music. Get your free tickets at the Activities Office. Open to the public. Juniors and Seniors, make plans now to attend the 2008 After Prom party at North Park Mall. Last year, more than 700 Central and North students had the time of their lives competing in games, running the obstacle course, visiting palm readers and caricature artists, and watching the embarrassing and hysterical antics of hypnotized friends. This year, After Prom will include frisbee golf and a money machine! More than 100 prizes will be given away to lucky students. You might win cash, electronics, and a refrigerator for your college dorm, and so much more. Winning is easy. It's all FREE and begins at 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 3rd. You may register on the boat at Prom OR at the mall if you won't be attending the dance. Just bring your ID. Make the most of your junior and senior year by attending After Prom! Students, who are planning on going to Mexico and Costa Rica, please make sure your registration form and deposit are turned in to Mrs. Preciado or Mrs. Trimble by Wed. April 30. You can still register in the fall, but the price will be higher. This July, St Ambrose University is offering a 10-day Youth Leadership Program for juniors and seniors. The program focus is on media, politics and leadership and is designed to be high tech and high touch with a youthful feel. Youth leaders, as well as those from the media and politics will present and interact with students. The program offers three college credits in political science. For more information please visit the St. Ambrose website at - www.SAU.edu. Attention Students: Prom tickets are now on sale in the Activities office. The cost is $20.00 a ticket in advance and $22.00 at the door, the first 500 students will receive a party favor. Remember seniors all fines and fees must be paid in order to purchase you tickets. TICKETS WILL ONLY BE SOLD BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL AND DURING PASSING TIME THROUGH THURSDAY, PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY.
