Announcements for 4-23-08Shades of Success/Boys to Men/Hispanic club will meet today in room 419 at 1:40. All students are welcome to attend. Congratulations to seven members of the Girls Track & Field team for being invited to compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines. The Drake Relays are the largest invitational in the Midwest, and only a handful of athletes from around the state qualify to compete there. Congratulations and good luck! The athletes are: There will be a brief Drama Club meeting on Thursday after school in room 305. If you have a one-act rehearsal, please meet in Ms. Buening's room before the rehearsal. Congratulations to the varsity girl's golf team for extending their win streak to 17 by winning the 7 team Bobcat Classic yesterday. Their score of 358 was 43 strokes better than their closest competitor. Great tournament girls...Go Blue! Leading the way for the Blue Devils: Attention current Iowa Youth Congress reps. We will have a short meeting today right after school in Mr. Thede’s office Newspaper students- the lab will be open until 3:30 today. The paper needs to be completed by Friday. Be in Kemper after school if you owe something. Daily grades are being given until work is in. All copy must be printed out and include stored location. The Central Girl's JV Golf Team tied Muscatine for 2nd place in the MAC JV Invite. They were only 1 stroke out of 1st place. Monday night the boy’s soccer team won their game vs. North Scott 2-1. This year the boy’s soccer team has scored 17 goals in 5 games and only given up 4 goals behind a very stingy defense. The boys soccer team will play on Thursday night against cross town rival North on the new turf at Brady Stadium. The sophomore game will begin at 5:30, followed by the varsity game around 6:45. The boy’s soccer team asks, that the great fans that the Quad Cities has grown to love at Central, come out and support the soccer team and view the first event played on the new turf. Calling all you chipper and energetic students of Central High - who wants to build a house this weekend? Well, help build one anyway! Key Club members are working on a Habitat for Humanity house this weekend, and we invite members of the CHS community to help us out! Once completed, this house will be occupied by a family who could not otherwise afford to buy their own residence. Come on Central - let's get some fresh air and help the community! This is a reminder to all of those students going to Luther College on Friday: Kelsey Roebuck, can you stop by and see Mrs. Heninger sometime today. 4-24 Attention all baseball players: tryouts start on Monday, April 28th at Brady Street Stadium. Practice will be from 4-6 each day. You must have a current physical to participate. Any player who is interested in trying out and hasn't signed up should see one of the baseball coaches in the weight room right after school on Wednesday or Friday.4-25 In honor of Earth Day this week, Environmental Club is bringing you some exciting environmental announcements. Did you know that the energy saved from recycling one aluminum can is enough energy to operate a television set for three hours? You can help by putting your cans and bottles in the blue and white recycling bins in your classrooms. Thank you to everyone who does their part to recycle. 4-23 Hey Blue Devils, the US Army, 389th Army Band is performing Tuesday night, April 29, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Marshall Gym. Come and enjoy an evening of patriotic, classical and film music. Get your free tickets at the Activities Office. Open to the public. 4-29 Attention all involved in Operation Prom: there will be a special meeting Thursday morning at 7:15 to go over the entire program. It is important that all people involved attend including all SADD members. The meeting in be in room 415 at 7:15 Thursday morning. If you are unable to attend, please see Mrs. Mussmann today. 4-23 Spanish Clubbers: we will meet this Thurs. immediately after school in room 331. We need to firm up plans for a Cinco de Mayo celebration.Piñatas will be involved. 4-23 A huge congratulation goes out to the Army JROTC Blue Devil Battalion Drill team. The Drill team took home third place in the armed regulation drill event on Saturday at the Mid West regional drill competition in Des Moines. The team members are: Twelve different teams from around the Mid West competed. Individual medalist included: Ryan Wilson was a Double Individual Medalist. A special acknowledgement goes out to Paige Gomez who took fourth place overall out of 250 other cadets in the individual unarmed competition. Way to go Cadets! Juniors and Seniors, make plans now to attend the 2008 After Prom party at North Park Mall. Last year, more than 700 Central and North students had the time of their lives competing in games, running the obstacle course, visiting palm readers and caricature artists, and watching the embarrassing and hysterical antics of hypnotized friends. This year, After Prom will include frisbee golf and a money machine! More than 100 prizes will be given away to lucky students. You might win cash, electronics, and a refrigerator for your college dorm, and so much more. Winning is easy. It's all FREE and begins at 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 3rd. You may register on the boat at Prom OR at the mall if you won't be attending the dance. Just bring your ID. Make the most of your junior and senior year by attending After Prom! 5-1 Hey all you Central Blue Devils - If you want to enjoy some serious competition between three of our Local High schools: Come out to Rocky High School from 8am till 3pm on Saturday and watch your Central JROTC Blue devil Battalion take on North and Rocky. Events will include: Soccer, Volleyball, Mile relay, Dodge Ball, Bear pit, Football and others. Sometimes the competition is intense. So come on out and support your school. The event is free. Go Cadets 4-25 This July, St Ambrose University is offering a 10-day Youth Leadership Program for juniors and seniors. The program focus is on media, politics and leadership and is designed to be high tech and high touch with a youthful feel. Youth leaders, as well as those from the media and politics will present and interact with students. The program offers three college credits in political science. For more information please contact ...... at Central High School or visit the St. Ambrose website at - www.SAU.edu. 5-7 Attention Students: Prom tickets are now on sale in the Activities office. The cost is $20.00 a ticket in advance and $22.00 at the door, the first 500 students will receive a party favor. Remember seniors all fines and fees must be paid in order to purchase you tickets. TICKETS WILL ONLY BE SOLD BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL AND DURING PASSING TIME, PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. 5-2 Attention Central High School seniors, if you have received notification of scholarships that were awarded to you please send a copy to the guidance office as soon as possible.
