Announcements for 4-21-08Attention all seniors: Next Tuesday, 2nd block we will have a 30 minute meeting regarding senior graduation, senior picnic, and end of the year information. Please make sure you attend this important meeting at 9:15am in the auditorium on the 29th. 4-21 Attention all blue devils: we will have more hallway sweeps this week. Please make sure you are getting to class on time. It is also important that you have a pass in the hallways. Be on time, be on time, BE ON TIME! Thank you! 4-21 Attention Students: Prom tickets are now on sale in the Activities office. The cost is $20.00 a ticket in advance and $22.00 at the door, the first 500 students will receive a party favor. Remember seniors all fines and fees must be paid in order to purchase you tickets. TICKETS WILL ONLY BE SOLD BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL AND DURING PASSING TIME, PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. 5-2 Shades of Success/Boys to Men Pullout Program will meet on Tuesday, tomorrow, BLOCK 1, in the auditorium. 4-21 It's BACK!!! Try a medium cup for only one dollar! 4-21 Attention Central High School seniors, if you have received notification of scholarships that were awarded to you please send a copy to the guidance office as soon as possible. We need this information for the Honors Award Program. 4-25 Congratulations to the Girls Track & Field team for a strong, 3rd-place finish at the Burlington Greyhound Invitational last Friday night. In individual events, Ebonie Butler won the 100, Nikki Miller won the 200, and Kelsey VandenBerg won the 400 hurdles and was 4th in the 100 hurdles. In relay events, the Lady Blue Devils won the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200 relays, were 2nd in the 800 medley and 4-by-400 relays, and were 3rd in the 1600 medley. Members of those teams were Butler, Miller, Lauren Portz, Kenya Bostic, Jayomie McGowan, Tiffany Taylor, Nicole Watts, Jessi VandenBerg, Sarah Peterson, and Melanie Louis. Other scorers were Mallory Cross, Jackie Couch, Desiree Davis, Courtney Lofgren, and Caitlin McCullough. 4-21 On Saturday the boy’s tennis team defeated Muscatine 8-1 and Burlington 9-0. Winners were Mitch Beckert, Jonathon O'Leary, Matt Stegemann, Jake Rock, Nelson Bates, Mark Lazio, Bryan Christiansen, Grant Kilmer, Kaleb Stebens and Ryan Brandt. The Blue Devils are now 6-0 for the season. 4-21 This is a reminder for all freshmen who are playing in the Knowledge Master Open competition today - you must meet in room 501 at the beginning of third block. See you then. 4-21 Another reminder goes to the Varsity Scholastic Bowl players that are playing in Knowledge Master Open competition tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23rd. We will be meeting at 7:30 a.m. in the morning in room 501 to begin our competition directly at 7:45 a.m. You will be excused from your classes. 4-21 Ben Behrendt, Austin Laugen, and Stephen Quist made up the Central Scholastic Bowl team this weekend at the Iowa State Championship Quiz Bowl Tournament in Ames. The team finished with a 13th place spot which is an amazing place, as they only had three team members. Individual statistics ranked our players as follows: Stephen Quist in 60th place, Austin Laugen in 43rd place, and Ben Behrendt placed in the top 10 scholastic bowlers in the state with an 8th place finish. Congratulations to these three students for their above and beyond academic effort last Saturday. We are proud of you. 4-21 SCOTT COMMUNITY COLLEGE, 7TH ANNUAL WELDING CONTEST, 10 TEAMS CENTRAL 3RD PLACE, STUDENTS WERE SHANE BANKS, COLLIN CARTEE, AUSTIN CONKLIN, MATT RAGAN, BRANDON SNELL, AND ANDREW TESHAK. WE ALSO WON A COMPUTER WELDING HELMET. 4-21 ANY STUDENT INTERED IN APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING SEE MR. HATFIELD IN ROOM 155 WELDING ROOM , WE HAVE SPEAKER COMING for apprenticeships FRIDAY IN AUDITORIUM all day. 4-24 Seniors, the list of who qualified for open campus is posted. If your raised your grade since the grades first came out, if you changed an incomplete to a grade, if you feel that there might be an error in your open campus status, see Mr. Classon in room 419 as soon as possible. Seniors if you have not turned in a parent permission slip, even if you are eighteen, you must report to commons; you may not take open campus privileges, even if you do not have a second or fourth block class. Please check the lists which are posted by the security office near 425 and by the office for further details. Juniors, your list will be posted before the end of the day. If you do not have a permission slip signed by your parents, you will need to report to the commons area. See your posted privileges list later today for further details. Sophomores, your list will be posted later today also. For all students who have received the commons privilege, you must have your student ID to enter. Without it you will be allowed in one time. The second time you will be allowed in, but it will be your last time. You will then be assigned to a guided study hall. If you are supposed to be in the commons but report to another study center instead, you must check in with that teacher, sign in, get a pass, and give that pass to Mr. Classon. The teacher may email Mr. Classon if he or she chooses to do so. Guided study students, you must bring either homework on which to work, or a book to read to guided study. If you do not, the teacher may assign you guided study work to do. Privileges and guided study will start this Wednesday, April 23. Juniors who qualified are temporarily allowed to go pending the results of their ITED scores which we will have within a week or two. If there is a problem, you will be notified that your privileges have been amended. Congratulations to all who qualified for privileges this year. Sophomores, and juniors, what you do this term will determine what privileges for which you might qualify at the start of next year. 4-21 To all Student Council members, if you did not attend the meeting last week, please see Mrs. Hosmer today. 4-21 Congratulations to the boy’s track and field team for their second place finish at the Burlington Greyhound Invitational. In the relays they finished 5th in the 4 by 400, 4th in the 4 by 100, 3rd in the 4 by 800, 3rd in the 4 by200, and 1st in the medley. Members of those relay teams were Bryce Cartee, Nick De La Cruz, Bryan Pearson, Robbie Pogue, Kenny Gilmore, Jonathan Puliam, E J Hicks, Dallas Burke, Dwayne Phillips, Deondrae Overstreet, Anthony Willis, Nihjl Hoover, Sam Manning, and Scott Hansmeier. In the running events Alex Trujillo finished 1st in the 3200 meter run and 4th in the 1600 meter run, Anthony Willis took 3rd in the 400 meter, Nick De La Cruz 2nd in the 1600 meter run, Keyvan Rudd 5th in the 200 meter dash, and Dwayne Phillips 5th 110 meter high hurdles. In the field events E J Hicks finished 1st in the long jump, Keyvan Rudd 1st in the high jump, Scott Hansmeier 3rd in the high jump, Prentiss Hood 2nd in the shot put and 6th in the discus, Josh Behrendts 6th in the shot put and Tom Farrell 4th in the discus. Keep up the good work gentlemen. 4-21 Reminder to all members of the boys track team that practice today will be at Brady Stadium at 3:00 pm. Throwers will be at 5pm. An activities bus will leave Central at 2:45 to take those needing a ride to Brady. It will leave from 12th Street. 4-21 Congratulations to BlackhawK Publications students. In Addition to being one of three schools nationally to receive the Press Freedom Award the BlackhawK Newspaper received a national first place ranking from the American Scholastic Press Association, in individual events in Journalism Education Association National Spring Write-Offs Brendan Iglehart received an excellent in Opinion Writing; Ayla Favati received and excellent in Copy Caption Student Life; and Sarah Larson received an Honorable Mention in Copy Caption Clubs. These awards are added to the 14 International Gold Keys won in newspaper competition sponsored by Quill & Scroll and 19 National Scholastic Press Honor Roll Awards received by student’s last week.4-21 Newspaper students if your stories are not in the computer today when you hear this announcement your work is past due. See Ms Buttleman immediately after school. 4-21 This is a very important announcement for juniors and other interest students. Tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium there will be a meeting about the college planning process: how to select a college, how to compare colleges, campus visits, and much, much more. Plan to attend, and bring a parent or guardian if possible. This is the perfect time to get started with this important process. 4-21
