Announcements for 2-24-10
On Saturday, February 20th, 2010, Central High School Jazz Band I performed at the 37th Annual Western Illinois University Jazz Festival. After a terrific competitive performance by the Jazz Band, they enjoyed a clinic by world renowned and Grammy award winning bassist, John Clayton. The competition included bands from all around Wisconsin and Illinois, along with our own Central High School representing Iowa. Out of 8 bands in Class 4A, the Jazz Band finished in second place and was 1st runner-up to the Grand Champion Trophy. Congratulations, Blue Devils, and good luck at the regional championships on March 6th.
The Central book club is meeting this Thursday after school to discuss the book “A Tree Grows In Brooklyn.” If you checked out a book and are unable to attend the discussion, you must return the book by Thursday. See you Thursday to discuss this magnificent book.
Girls Track & Field practice will begin today at 2:15 in the new gym with Coach Pettigrew.
Hey Environmental Club,
Because we missed last Wednesday because of the ITED, we need as many Environmental Club members as possible at our meeting this afternoon because the cans and bottles are piling up in all of the school bins. Please come if you can to help to recycle.
Attention Senior! In order to be sure your name is spelled correctly on your diploma you need to complete a name verification form. If you have not done so, please see Mrs. Pacha in the Guidance office.
Students: There have recently been some issues with students not cleaning up after themselves in the cafeteria. This seems to happen most often in the booths. Please be sure to clean up after yourselves in the lunchroom so that you can continue to use the booths.
Attention wrestlers---There will be a short post-season meeting right after school today in the wrestling room. You must attend or see Coach Ehlinger before the meeting.

Attn: All Boys interested in playing Tennis. There will be a short meeting in the cafeteria at 3:00 on today.
ATTENTION ALL CHS STUDENTS: This year’s annual Variety Show auditions are open to ALL STUDENTS with ALL TYPES of acts. Rock bands, comedy acts, magic, drama, song, dance, and of course the hilarious MC acts will be auditioned this Wednesday from 2:00-5:00 in Kahler Auditorium. Come at 2:00, with your prepared audition, all members of the act, and any equipment needed for your audition. Students will audition on a first come, first-served basis, and may leave as soon as you are done with your 2-3 minute audition. If you have any questions or concerns, please see any of the CHS music faculty prior to the auditions. Let’s show off all of the different talents of the CHS student body!
All three of the Battle of the Books teams are meeting on tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m. All team members need to be present. If you have any book summaries to share, please bring three copies to the meeting. I hope to see everyone bright and early Thursday morning.
Just a reminder: Red Cross Club will be meeting after school today in room 631. We're still seeking more members to join CHS's Red Cross Club, so if you're interested please stop by the meeting! Hope to see you there!
We will have a representative from Scott Community College at 10:00 am in the guidance office conference room. Stop and get a pass if interested in visiting with them.
Forms for newspaper editorships are due March1 as are letters of intent to apply for the 2010 World Food Prize Youth Institute. See Buttleman for more information.
