Announcements for 2-16-10
Students-tomorrow is ITED day! Please make sure you get a good nights rest and report early to school to your testing location. Bring a calculator and something to do if you complete the tests early. Thank you very much ahead of time for doing your best on the tests!
CHS...it is crutial that you report to your classes on time! We will be having tardy sweeps coming up. Students, if you are in the halls after the bell rings, you will be assigned a detention to serve. Be aware, the school will be having tardy sweeps and it is a priority to us that you are in class on time.
Make sure to congratulate the Blue Devil wrestlers today on the best season in years. The varsity Blue Devils were in action at Districts on Saturday and had an outstanding team performance, finishing just 6 ½ points shy of qualifying for the state team dual tournament, finishing third at the Burlington district. Individually, Central had 4 third place finishers in Ryan Baumer, TayTay Tensley, Dalen Turcsak, and TJ Meyer. Nate Coonts finished 4th. Central qualified 3 individuals for state; Paul Shumaker, runner-up at 135lbs, Payton Shumaker, runner-up at 145lbs, and Josh Behrendt was the district champ at 215lbs. These guys will wrestle Wednesday night at 6:30pm in the opening round at Wells Fargo in DesMoines. Good Luck Blue Devils!!
Congratulations to Central's show choirs for another phenomenal performance this past weekend at Fort Atkinson, WI.
Blue Vibrations once again showed their hard work in practice pays off by finishing 5th in a very difficult prep division. Their performance was another improvement on a very strong season.
Central Singers placed first place after the day round, and lost a heartbreaker in the evening finals. They finished first runner-up overall and only missed grand champion by two points. It was another strong performance for csi!
Special congratulations to the Central Singers band for being named Best Band. It was their second caption win of the season.
The show choirs will next perform this weekend at the Adler for their own competition,Great River. They will finish their season in two weeks when they compete at Cedar Rapids Kennedy. Way to go BV and CSI!
REMINDER FOR ALL BV AND CSI MEMBERS: Today’s rehearsal will be from 3-4pm. No pit and crew will be needed for this rehearsal.
CENTRAL STUDENTS AND SHOW CHOIR FANS: you are all invited to come see the show choirs perform this weekend at the GREAT RIVER SHOW CHOIR INVITATIONAL at the Adler Theater. Central’s own Blue Vibrations will perform on Friday at 6:50pm and Central Singers, Inc. will perform on Saturday at 6:15pm. Come see these award-winning shows. Student admission is only $5!

Parents of Publications meeting is tonight. If you are planning to be involved in Brazil activities in Brazil, that will be discussed as the first item on the agenda. Students need to apply for passports now.
Students save your pennies and bring them to all lunches Thursday February 18. It is Pennies for Press Day as part of Scholastic Journalism Week.

Attention all boys soccer players, open gym will start Feb. 21st
The Varsity Scholastic Bowl team will be practicing on Thursday, February 18th at 7:00 a.m. this week. All junior and senior Scholastic Bowl players should attend. See you there!
All students interested in being a member of Student Council should pick up a packet in activities. You will need to fill out an application, get 25 signatures from members of your graduating class, and 3 teacher recommendations. Forms are due Friday, Feb. 26. See Mrs. Trimble in Room 331 if you have any questions.
STUCO members: weekly check-in is THIS Thursday morning at 7:15. Attendance is mandatory. Don’ t be late.
Attention Junior Male Students: The American legion Post 26 is sponsoring a minimum of two boys from the current junior class to attend Boys State which is held from June 13-18, 2010. This program offers students the opportunity to learn first hand the government process through city, county and state levels. All fees are paid and transportation is provided. See Ms. Riley or Mr. Flaherty for more information.
Central Girls Tennis: Girls in 9th thru 12th grade interested in playing on the Central Girls Tennis team, there will be an informational and rules meeting for you and a parent on Friday, February 19, 2010, at 6:00p.m. in the West end of the cafeteria at Central High School.
Newspaper students your stories are past due. The lab will be open after school for check in Get them in. No exceptions. Quill & Scroll and editor forms are in Kemper. Pick them up when you deliver your stories.
