Girls Learn is meeting tomorrow after school in room 501. Maggie Tinsman is our guest speaker for the meeting, so be sure to hear what she is saying about human trafficking in Iowa. See you tomorrow.
On Wednesday, February 17, every Central 9th, 10th, and 11th grader will be taking the Iowa Tests of Educational Development. A student’s ITED scores are used to track the student’s academic progress from year to year. They are also used as a measure of our school’s improvement.
There will be Parents of Publications meeting Tuesday Feb 9 at 7 p.m. in Kemper. On the agenda is information about the upcoming Brazil trip. If you are interested in going to Brazil plan to be there.

All of the Battle of the Books teams are meeting this Thursday, February 11, morning at 7:00 a.m. If you have any written book updates, please bring them at this time. If you cannot attend, see Mrs. Heninger before Thursday.

Students-C Term has been extended due to the number of snow days we have had this year. Now there will be NO 2- hour early out on March 11th. On March 17th there is a 2-hour early out, and finals are March 18th and 19th. Please mark this in your planners. Also, ITEDs are February 17th. Seniors will not have to report on ITED day.
The end is near! The end is near! That is the end of your opportunity to purchase a yearbook for the 2009-2010 school year. Wednesday, Feb. 17 is the last chance to purchase the Blackhawk yearbook. We won’t be getting extra yearbooks and you won’t want to miss all the great memories and the chance to sign all your BFFs books and have them sign yours when the books arrive this May! Buy your books for $65.00 in the activities office.
Make your Valentine happy! Buy your honey some sweets or some flowers on Thursday, the 11th, or Friday, the 12th, at lunch time in the cafeteria. They will also be available before school on Friday. Flowers will be $1.50 and candy will be $1.00. The band will love you!
Girls Track & Field practice begins Monday at 9 a.m. in the new gym. All paperwork—including a physical exam—must be turned-in to Coach Trujillo before you can begin practice. See Coach Tru in room 627 for more information.
Devil's Dining Out this week is at Panda Express at Northpark. Pick up your flyer in the office or band room and come eat on Wednesday night from 4-9. With the flyer, 20% of all proceeds will be donated to the great band and orchestra programs here at Central. Go Blue Devils!
Intramural Basketball 3 on 3 Tournament tuesday wednesday thursday February 9, 10, 11. 700 am in the New Gym, to sign up see Coach Peterson, or Swetalla in PE Offices. 4 players on each team, round robin play with finals on the 11th.
The Freshman Scholastic Bowl team is meeting on Friday morning at 7:00 a.m. in room 501. This practice is for freshmen only, so plan to come.

They are also used as a measure of the school’s improvement and are a factor in determining whether a student qualifies for commons and open campus privileges.
Today’s ITED vocabulary words are vacillating and fastidious, as in: After vacillating for days, I decided to tell you that Mr. Kuttler is fastidious about organizing his desk.
Vacillating means “unable to make a decision.”
Fastidious means “excessively concerned (especially when it comes to cleanliness).”
Girls interested in golf this spring, please plan to attend an informational meeting Thursday, the eleventh, at 2:45 in room 611.
The University of Iowa Upward Bound will not meet today due to the weather.
Boys and Girls Basketball Games have been cancelled for tonight and rescheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday Feb 10th). Boys will have practice at 3:00 pm. Girls Fresh/Sophomore will practice at 3:00 pm and Girls Varsity will practice at 5:00 pm.
