Announcements for 1-25-10Blue Vibrations finished 3rd in the prep division and continued to improve their show. They made great strides this week and even finished in front of one of the varsity groups. Outstanding job Blue Vibes! Keep up the great work. Central Singers, Incorporated had an unbelievable competition. CSI finished 1st place in class 4A and finished as the overall Grand Champions. They also received caption awards for Best Vocals, Best Choreography, and Best Band. This is CSIs 3rd Grand Championship in the past two years and their 4th since 2007. The show choirs will be performing for the Stepping Stones program on Wednesday, the Spree Aud on Friday, and will compete on Saturday, February 6th at Mount Pleasant. Way to go show choirs! The Bluedevil wrestlers were in competition last Saturday at the always tough Clinton varsity wrestling tournament. The team had a top eight finish out of 22 teams. Individually, Ryan Baumer earned a 6th place finish, Payton Shumaker and Dalen Turcsak earned 5th place finishes, and Paul Shumaker and Josh Behrendt earned Runner-up finishes. Congratulations BlueDevils. All wrestlers who have not turned in grade cards need to turn them into Coach Ehlinger before practice tonight. Please be reminded that all cheerleaders, boys and girl’s bowlers, and dance team members must turn in their grade cards today to Mr. Cartee in the Activities Office. Please turn them in as soon as possible! Be apart of a fun day next Thursday Jan 28th and wear a silly hat or just your favorite hat for only $1!!! The After Prom committee will be at the Main St. Door, 12th street door, and in the cafeteria to collect your $1. Please help support the After Prom and bring $1 and wear be a part of hat day! Your hat must be appropriate and you will receive a sticker approving your hat to be worn during the day. Support after prom and bring $1 on Thursday for HAT DAY! Central’s book club is ready for our next book! Our third book of the year is called A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and is written by Betty Smith. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is a story of childhood and family relationships that traces the Nolan Family, and specifically the daughter, Francie, who live in the Williamsburg slums of Brooklyn in the early 1900’s. If you are interested in getting a copy of this book, come quickly to room 501, as there are only 14 copies. We will discuss the book on Thursday, February 25th after school in room 501 so you have about a month to read the book. Central, let's get reading! All National History Day participants will be meeting on Wednesday, January 27th at 7:15 a.m. in room 501. Everyone who plans to submit a National History Day project needs to attend to fill out the registration paperwork. Our trip to St. Ambrose University library will be on Thursday, February 4th in the afternoon, and our trip to the University of Iowa special collections has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 16th. See you on Wednesday morning. See Mrs. Heninger if you are unable to make the meeting this Wednesday morning. Spree tickets are on sale in the Activities Office before and after school and during passing time. Tickets are $10.00 a piece and must have a student ID to purchase tickets NO EXCEPTIONS. Also, permission slip to bring a student from another school will be available in the Activities Office before and after school and during passing time only. Once again, tickets will be sold, before and after school and during passing time ONLY! 1/29/10 They are $15 at the door. Non-Central students may not buy tickets at the door. The dance is Saturday night in George Marshall from 8-11. Hope to see you there! Attention all FCA members. All t-shirt orders need to be in by Friday, January 29. Please stop by the dean’s office to place your order before or after school. Attention all students. If you are late to first block you have a 15 minute detention that needs to be served within three days after school in the auditorium. If you are late to second, third, or fourth block you owe the classroom instructor a 15 minute detention. Students who do not serve their detentions will be issue a 1 hour detention. All detentions need to be served in order to attend the Spree Dance on January 30. The Sophomore Scholastic Bowl team will be practicing on Tuesday, January 26th at 7:00 a.m. This practice is for sophomores only. See you there! The drama club Black History Interactive timeline play practice will start today and tomorrow. If you are a cast member, please come to room 417 right after school for rehearsal. 1/26/10 Hey Red Cross Club! Don't forget our meeting this Tuesday January 26th right after school in room 631. This meeting is also open to anyone wishing to join or learn more about this new and exciting club here at Central. Hope to see you there! This is a reminder that the Destination Imagination team will be meeting on Tuesday, January 26th after school in room 501. All team members need to be present, as we have missed many of our practices due to weather. See you after school on Tuesday. Let Jonathan Quist or Alex Pogue know if you cannot attend. Girls Learn International will be meeting on Tuesday, January 26th right after school. Our meeting will be done by 3:30 p.m. This time, we promise! See you Tuesday. Those students, who plan to ski with the Brazilians Wednesday, need to see Ms Buttleman Malcolm immediately following announcements to complete forms and get on the excused list. Show choir members if you plan to come after your performance but want the reduced rate you also need to see Ms Buttleman Malcolm immediately following announcements. The list must be emailed today. Newspaper students, proofing will be today after school. Check in for this week is at that time rather than Tuesday. Students who plan to drive to the Arsenal 4th block Thursday need to get drivers license numbers to Ms Buttleman Malcolm immediately following announcements. There will be a short Blue Crew meeting on Thursday to discuss the cake auction, t-shirts, 8th grade orientation, and future activities. Please try to be there. It's Devil's Dining Out time of year again - support the one of the great programs at CHS. Come eat at Culvers on Jersey Ridge on Wednesday night from 5-7. 10% of all proceeds will be donated to the great band and orchestra programs here at Central. Go Blue Devils! Reminder to all girls’ athletes: open gym is Tuesday and Thursday this week at 3:00 in the weight room. Could Peter Kaufmann and Brenna Guard stop by and see Mrs. Heninger today?
