Pet Sanctuary Visit
For the second year in a row, Debbie Wallace, founder and director of Down by the Creek animal sanctuary has come to visit Central High School with many animals in tow. She brought five dogs, one ferret, one ball python named Cheerio, and two very contrasting rabbits to Mrs. Gassner’s forth block biology class. It was a great hands-on way to learn about genetics and heredity. Students listened to Debbie tell the stories of each rescued animals and learned the tasks of each animals in their work as pet therapy animals in the nursing homes and schools. Her motto is: The one you rescue comes to rescue you. The students were impressed with her passion and dedication for telling the animals’ stories and providing pet therapy to reduce the cruelty and unkindness in the world. It makes a difference. Students will be going out to the sanctuary in Long Grove, Iowa to volunteer. Thank you Ms. Wallace for sharing your time, talent, and passion with us!
