    Central Daily Announcements

    Monday, March 02, 2020

IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE A BLUE DEVIL ~ here are your Daily Announcements:

This announcement is for all 17 and 18 year old guys out there. If you aren’t registered with Selective Service, get on it! Federal Law says all men living in the U.S. must register within a month of their 18th birthday. Registering keeps us eligible for college loans, job training, government jobs, and driver’s license renewal in most states. And if you’re a male immigrant, you have to be registered. Regardless of your immigration status. You can get a Selective Service registration card at the post office or register online. Please see Mrs. Pacha in the counselor’s office for more information.

So, register today, your future depends on it!

There will be an informational meeting for students interested in playing boys tennis this Monday, March 2nd at 4:30 in the east end of the cafeteria. This meeting will be followed by preseason conditioning until 5:30, and this conditioning will continue every day from 4:30-5:30 until spring break begins. Come dressed to run. Players unable to attend on Monday should contact Coach Carpenter.

Congratulations to the following Vocal Music students for being selected to the Central and North Central American Choral Directors Association Honor Choir!

Seniors – Sam Fahrenkrug, Maddi Smith, Nick Vazquez, Anna Winn

Juniors – Meredith Sloat and Angela Torres

    Sophomore – Jenna VanHoosier

    Freshman – Katie Mahl

These students were selected from nearly 2,000 auditions from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin!  This is one of the highest musical honors that a student can receive at the Regional level.  They will perform in concert on Saturday, March 7th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Congratulations singers and GO BLUE

Attention Central students! Do you want to help support the University of Iowa’s Children’s Hospital? Do you want to have fun with friends while supporting families in need? Then Dance Marathon is where to go! Dance Marathon is an event to benefit the children at the U of I children’s hospital. The dance is March 6th at the George Marshall Gym from 5-8pm. Admission is $5. Bring all your friends and family and be prepared to have fun!

The yearbook will be taking a photo of all of the TAG and AP students on Tuesday, March 3 during DC Time.  This is for any student who has taken an AP class or if you are involved in TAG programming for either Option 1 or 2.  Please sign up for DC Time on Tuesday under Ebener or Heninger. The photo will take place in Kahler Auditorium during DC Time on March 3.3/2

Tuesday March 3rd – Scott Community College @ 2:30 p.m. in the counseling office.

Attention Students: If you are interested in learning more about joining the Dance Team for the 2020-2021 School year, sign up for an informational meeting during DC time on Tuesday March 10th. If you cannot make the meeting or have questions, please see Mrs. Dennis in room 415.

Juniors—don’t forget to create your ACT account and register for the free test on April 29th by filling out the google form.  If you are having any difficulties, see one of the counselors!  Any junior who takes the ACT on the 29th will be dismissed from school at the conclusion of testing!

Since we are remaining on the block schedule for the 20-21 school year, adjustments in course selections will need to be made for those who have already selected classes.  For freshmen and others who have not met with your counselor yet–please be patient!  Counselors are waiting for the academic planner to be updated in the portal, as well as some questions to be answered before moving forward.  We will keep you updated on the process!

    Seniors—keep applying for scholarships!!!

Central has 2 kids on the Quad City Blues JV Hockey team. The team includes students from all over the Quad City Area and plays in the Midwest Hockey League. The League has 14 teams from Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri. The team played 32 regular season games with a record of 18-13-1. On Thursday they head to the state tournament and take on Waterloo on the first game. I know these boys would appreciate a shout out from their school.
