German Classes Visit Chicago
As part of the German curriculum, 26 students from Central and 16 students from West had the opportunity to go to Chicago. Students saw the German exhibits at the Museum of Science and Industry. Science- minded students visited the Swiss Jolly Ball. Holiday-minded students visited Christmas Around the World and the Holidays of Light exhibits featuring holiday trees from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. History-minded students visited the Stuka Dive Bomber and the German U-boat exhibits. Some students had the opportunity to tour the inside of the U-boat.
After the museum students headed to the Christkindlmarket in Downtown Chicago. They were able to shop for German goods. This is as close to going to Germany as a person can get in the Midwest. The vendors come from the German-speaking lands with their food and wares. The Christkindlmarket in Chicago is associated with the world famous Christkindlmarkt in Nürnberg, Germany. Thank you to all who attended, including our teachers and chaperones!
