District Championships 2006MEET RESULTS DISTRICT
CHAMPIONSHIPS Friday,
May 12, 2006 TEAM
SCORES: 1st Bettendorf 100, 2nd Davenport Central 97.5,
3rd Clinton 93, 4th Pleasant Valley 88, 5th
North Scott 67.5, 6th Muscatine 63, 7th Davenport North
61, 8th Davenport West 19 COACHS COMMENTS True competitors rise to the occasion. To
absolutely no ones surprise, you produced season-best performances in 13
different events tonight! It says a lot about your character, hard work, and
preparation that despite cold, windy, and rainy conditions 19 of you qualified
for State in 10 events! This was the meet we were pointing to all season long
as the culmination to our Championship Week, and once again our team asserted
itself as one of the best teams in eastern Iowa andif all goes well next weekin
the entire state as well! As often happens with success, though, there
comes tribulation and disappointment. We learned some important lessons tonight
that I hope remain with us in the future. A relay that we expected to earn a
medal at State didnt finish the race, because we didnt apply the rules; two
other relays that were contenders for State berths were disqualified, because
of mental mistakes; and Sahvanuh came up just short in the 400H with her first
off race in two years. There were others of you who also werent satisfied
with the outcome of your event. Sometimes a poor performance is the result of
factors that are outside our control, and we have to accept a disappointing
outcome with grace and no regrets. Other times, a disappointment should
challenge us to become more knowledgeable about our sport, or to learn more
about ourselves as athletes. Each of us should learn from watching and
listening to each other, because we succeed or fail the same wayalways as a
team. As the saying goes, with every cloud theres a
silver lining, and tonights silver linings came in the form of two surprise
qualifiers for State. First, Erin produced the best throw of her life to
qualify in the discus, knocking off a number of other girls who had been
throwing farther all season long! Second, the 800 sprint medley produced an
exciting race down to the wire with three rookie State qualifiers! Whether your
season ended tonight or you get to compete next week in Des Moines, you all
should be proud of how you performed tonight! Shot Put winner
