TEAM SCORES: 1^st Davenport North 96, 2^nd Bettendorf 95, 3^rd North Scott 86, 4^th Davenport Central 76.5, 5^th Davenport West 74.5

COACH’S COMMENTS: This was a meet of two extremes, one “good” and one “bad.” The “good” news was that we had 45 season-bests, including three meet records! This shows that your hard work is paying off, and that we are on-schedule to have our best performances in the weeks ahead. The workouts you did this week and last week, and that you will do next week before we return to Bettendorf on Friday, will be a huge factor in how well the remainder of your season goes. We’re still learning our events, though, and that means that we’re still going to have difficulties with race tactics, baton exchanges, or technical events. That’s part of the “bad” news—that we had some tactical mistakes and poor baton passes and improper technique. (We can address those mistakes with better focus and harder work during practice and meets, especially the mental aspect.) The other part of the “ bad” news is beyond our control: the rest of the MAC is much better than it was last year. Veterans who enjoyed lots of success last season will have to work much harder this year to achieve the same level of success this season. Our team is better than last year, overall—but so are North and Bettendorf and (significantly) North Scott. We’ll find out more about PV and Muscatine next week, and we already know about Burlington. So although this was a good, solid meet for us, we don’t have the luxury of resting on our laurels! Be ready to work hard in the coming weeks and meets!
