Bettendorf CoedMEET RESULTS BETTENDORF
CO-ED MEET Saturday,
April 2, 2005 TEAM
SCORES: 1st Davenport Central
102.5, 2nd Davenport West 93.5, 3rd Davenport North
92, 4th Bettendorf 90, 5th North Scott 51 COACH'S
COMMENTS: Congratulations on our first TEAM WIN in at least a decade! We were
able to hold off North and West––who were the teams that had the best shot at
beating us, but surprisingly not Bettendorf––for two reasons. First, we got big
performances from our so-called "stars," including four meet records!
Second, we got big performances from everyone,
not just our "stars." With 19 events on the program, it's crucial
that every athlete in every event "come through" if the team is going
to be successful. We scored in 17 of those events! Now that we we've got our
first win of the century, we can go back to focusing on being in peak shape for
our championship meets in 6 weeks! Discus winner
Sarah Saladino, Davenport West, 100’ 6”
COMMENTS: Two lifetime-bests and
another within two inches! Not a bad way to start our day! Keep focused on
learning the details of technique and you’ll be consistent at these distances,
and even further. Nice job! Shot Put winner
Meredith Tangen, Davenport West, 33’ 6”
COMMENTS: All of you are still
learning this event, even if you did it last year. And at the same time, you’re
learning the discus too. There’s no substitute for experience, so be patient
and you’ll reach the distances you hope for. But there’s no hurrying the
process of your body learning how the “perfect” throw ought to be done. Keep at
it! Long Jump
COMMENTS: Consistency is key in
every field event. Three of you were consistent in hitting the board (or at
least, not fouling) and got four legal jumps. The next step is to be consistent
in body position (take-off) over the board, so you can “hang” like Coach
Pettigrew keeps telling you. Nice job! High Jump winner
Troysheanna Hawkins, Davenport West, 5’ 0”
COMMENTS: You were in the lead
until 5' 0", because you were jumping with speed and quickness. Your first
two attempts at 5'0" were unlike all of your other jumps, though, and
that's what got you in trouble. Your final attempt was plenty high enough, but
too far past the bar. This was a good performance and a good learning
experience. Be ready to jump high again on the same apron next week! 4x800 Relay 2nd place,
10:36.6 SB winner
Bettendorf, 10:33.9
6th place,
12:20.3
COMMENTS: We were the only school
with two teams in this race, and for a while it looked like both teams might
earn medals! Six of you were able to race
someone within a few strides, and that's what led to five season-bests! As
always contact is the key, and it's easier to maintain contact if you're
training hard in practice. Well done! 4x100 SHR 2nd
place, 1:09.1 winner
Bettendorf, 1:07.1
