MEET RESULTS

QUAD-CITY INDOOR INVITATIONAL

Wednesday-Thursday, March 3-4, 2005

TEAM SCORES: 1st Rock Island 86, 2nd Clinton 54, 3rd Iowa City 53.5, 4th Moline 49, 5th Muscatine 22, 6th Galesburg 21, 7th Rock Island Alleman 20, 8th Davenport North 18, 9th Geneseo 17, =10th Rockridge & Bettendorf 16, 12th United Township 15, 13th Davenport Central 14, 14th Davenport West 1.5, 15th Assumption 0

HEAD COACH'S COMMENTS: The few events contested at this meet means that we have to leave a lot of teammates on the sidelines. Some other schools chose to enter far fewer athletes than we did, in an effort to score as many points as possible (for instance, 40 of Clinton's points came from one athlete winning four events). We use this meet for two purposes: as a chance to see where we stand against other teams in a few select events (e.g., the 4x4 and 4x2), and to give as many of you as possible a chance to compete. All of you responded well to the challenge; not one of you had a disappointing performance! This was a great way to start off our season!

COMMENTS: It was great to see both of you throw so consistently; 7 of your 8 throws were within 18 inches of each other. Consistency is key in field events, and to be so close to (or ahead of) last year's PRs is encouraging this early in the year!

COMMENTS: As with the throwers, consistency on the take-off board makes all the difference at this point in the season. Later in the year, as you get more speed and technique, then what happens after the board will be more important, but to have no fouls in the entire series is fantastic!

COMMENTS: Despite not having competed in this event since your sophomore year, you made the right adjustments after your misses at 4'10" and 5'0". Once we get some real practice time in the coming weeks, expect to be challenging 5'2" or higher on a regular basis!

COMMENTS: You both start this season faster than you did last season, and for Jerika that's also ahead of Toccara's time last year! You'll both go even faster when you improve your flight phase (especially reducing "floating" over the hurdles) and improve your speed through sprint workouts. Great job!

COMMENTS: The early-season nature of this meet showed in both of your starts, which were almost pop-ups. We'll get more practice in coming weeks, and you'll be able to improve your acceleration phase as a result. Be sure to sprint relaxed but with strong arms all the way through the line. Nice races!

COMMENTS: After Sarah and Tarah gave us a big lead on 3rd, it was essentially a timed effort for Cassie and Kate. They would have run faster with some competition, but it was nice to have a solid position up near the front! The first two legs showed some real determination to get us off to a great start–and this was over 30 seconds faster than our best time last year! Great job!

COMMENTS: Both of you raced competitively, and handily took care of the opposition! Both of you will also run much faster this year–Sara when you're in a race with someone else in front of you, and Jayomie when you get more experience at the high-school level. This was an encouraging first race for both of you!

COMMENTS: This was exciting! Despite the last-second adjustment on the missing acceleration zone, our handoffs were safe and we were always at the front. You've started the season within 5 seconds of where you ended last season–before we've started any real speedwork! Great job!
