Hall of Honor Recipient
Leona Soehren, with a Masters Degree in Counseling,
was a master at knowing how to help the thousands of former Davenport
High School students who came through her door. Graduating from the
University of Iowa in 1930 Phi Beta Kappa she became teacher, then
secretary to the principal, and later Dean of Students.
Throughout her career she was always there when needed. Above and
beyond the spectrum of school counseling activities she would help
arrange clothing so a needy student could attend school or a prom
dress to attend the dance, help find a job for part-time work or
search out worthy scholarship candidates.
Her technique of discipline and adherence to rules
was spectacular and her encouragement, wise counsel and personal
support was never questioned or wanting.
