Hall of Honor Recipient

Dr. Walter E. Neiswanger
Class of 1941
Inducted in 1989

A resident of Davenport and a pathologist working at Quad-City hospitals, Dr. Neiswanger is known for his professional work, but particularly for his generosity. For 24 years, he has given pre-med scholarships to Davenport high school seniors who intend to become physicians. To date, 18 doctors emerged from his program; the other six are still in school.  The personal cost to him has been in excess of a quarter-million dollars. He doesn’t choose them.  “I’m a telephone pole’s length away from the selection process,” he says. Dr. Neiswanger is close to the arts and at Davenport Museum of Art has established America’s first major collection of Haitian art.  He has served on the museum’s board of trustees and as its president. Professionally, he serves as associate medical director for the Quad-City Hospitals schools for Medical Technology. He holds an honorary degree of doctor of humane letters from St. Ambrose University.
