Hall of Honor Recipient

James Leach
Class of 1960
Inducted in 1989

    U.S. Representative from Iowa’s First District since 1976, James Leach is a ranking member of the subcommittee on international development, finance, trade and monetary policy. He is also a ranking member of the subcommittee on Asian and Pacific affairs and the subcommittee on Europe and the Middle East.  He was a foreign service officer assigned to the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, a delegate to the United Nationals General Assembly, and a delegate to the Geneva Disarmament Conference.  He has served on the U.S. Advisory Commission on International Education and Cultural Affairs and was special assistant to Donald Rumsfeld, director of the Office of Economic Opportunity.  Leach received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his master’s in Soviet politics at Johns Hopkins University.
