Hall of Honor Recipient

Roger Craig
Class of 1978
Inducted in 1989

Sports Illustrated says he is one of pro football’s all-time great running backs.  The San Francisco 49er has been named the Player of the Year in the NFL, and has led the NFL in pass receptions and in yardage.  In the 49er’s Super Bowl victory against Miami, he had the most points ever recorded in a Super Bowl game-three touchdowns.  Craig has appeared on the cover of most national sports magazines.  He is the only player in the history of pro football to have gained 1,000 yards running and receiving in a single season.  He graduated from the University of Nebraska, and joined San Francisco in 1983.  He has shown a remarkable interest in the Central High teams and has assisted the school’s athletic program.  Herb Caen, San Francisco columnist, says: “Besides being a great athlete, he is a great guy-a true gentleman.
