Julia Barr, Winner of the Quad City Iron Pen Contest

Junior Angela Barr, an editor for our school's literary and art magazine, Indigo Ink, is the youth fiction winner for the Quad City Iron Pen contest sponsored by the Midwest Writing Center.  The Iron Pen contest requires participants to write a poem or short story on a specific writing prompt.  The twist is that the prompt is released only 24 hours before the writing piece is due.  This year's prompt was:  "Why do they always have to be red?"  Her winning short story is about a struggling actress and a laundry girl who has to clean tomato stains off the actress' clothes.  She read her short story at the Bucktown Center for the Arts in Davenport last Friday night.  Congratulations, Angela.  We are proud of you!!!

Good people are good because they've come to wisdom through failure. We get very little wisdom from success, you know.
