This month, our 6th grade students begin their research into their heritage and the reasons their and others’ ancestors came to America and the Davenport area. Below you can see students hard at work researching local immigrants and getting the opportunity to work with primary source materials from Special Collections in the Davenport Public Library. CAA students, teachers, and DPL staff can be seen working together to help all of the students study their heritages.
In January, the students will be creating plays in their Heritage (English and Social Studies) classes with other students that share a similar heritage, dramatizing the lives and immigration stories of various peoples.
This project, done in collaboration with the Davenport Public Library – Special Collections and Davenport Junior Theatre, is funded by an Arts Dollar$ Grant through Quad City Arts. Thank you to everyone involved in making this opportunity a reality for our students!
