Students at Blue Grass Elementary are working to make change- literally! We are in the middle of a Penny Drive for Haiti Relief, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief. A group of 4th and 5th graders got together and planned for two weeks of collecting pennies or any coins Blue Grass has to give.

The original goal that our group made was $45, which is about a dime per person in our building, but that goal was met before school even started on Monday, when one student brought $48 he collected in his neighborhood over the weekend. After our first day brought in over $300, we decided to make our goal $450, or one dollar per person in the building. That was met the second day when we doubled our first day's total. We are about to break $1100 and the students are hoping to possibly double that before the drive ends on Friday, February 5th. If you would like to make a donation to the American Red Cross and help inspire the youth of Blue Grass, stop by the school (see address below) and put your unwanted coins toward a great cause.

Penny Drive For Haiti Relief

Blue Grass Elementary is a component of the Davenport Community School District. All elementary students in our system learn to practice seven life skills: caring, teamwork, responsibility, effort, initiative, perseverance, and common sense.
