This summer, West High math teacher Lindsey Gosse participated in an Iowa STEM Teacher Externship program by working on a project for M.A. Ford. Lindsey’s project was to build a program to estimate shipping weights for the tools M.A. Ford makes, given the dimensions and type of tool. She began on the floor to get an idea of the mass of the material used to make the tools, then worked on her formulas and estimations.
Lindsay hopes that by showing her students some actual experience behind her classroom explanations, they will see the importance of skills such as problem solving, persistence, and precision. M.A. Ford is proud to promote the growth of STEM education and hopes to participate in the program again in 2019.
