West High Junior Brandon Richards and Industrial Technology Teacher Mr. Smith traveled to Davenport’s Sister City, Kaiserslautern, Germany, to support a new First Tech Challenge team through the Heinrich Heine Gymnasium Junior Engineers program. They worked with the German students to build an FTC robot to get the team ready to compete in a qualifying meet for European teams in this year’s “First Tech Challenge” on March second and third in Stuttgart, Germany. While in Kaiserslautern, they visited with the John Deere European Technology Innovation Center, the University of Technology, and other German STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) partners. Sixteen members of the West High FTC World Champion Team will visit the school again in June for three weeks as part of the reprised Kaiserslautern Youth Exchange with Davenport Sister Cities. The German students will visit Davenport and West High School in the spring of 2019.
