The Smart Intermediate seventh grade football team wrapped up an undefeated 6-0 season with a 30-13 win over Bettendorf. Congratulations players and coaches!
Students in Ms. Landaverde’s Spanish class at Central High recently had the opportunity to virtually tour Mexico as part of their Cultural Connections unit. Students studied Chichen Itza, Aztec and Mayan Ruins, and other parts of Mexico and Mexico City. All of their efforts culminated in using the Google Expeditions Virtual Reality Viewers to see these amazing places “up close.”
Mrs. Rowland’s Environmental Club at North High adopted the campus and 53rd Street in front of the building through the ilivehereqc.org program. They had their first cleanup day on October 11th. I Live Here QC is a local affiliate of an organization that “empowers others with information, activities, and resources for becoming a better steward of our environment.”

Michael Liendo talked to the West High Computer Science students about JavaScript development and working with Giphy APIs. He gave a great tutorial that the students will be able to take and try at home. Michael works for Aquent IT Solutions, a development center and consulting firm. He also represents QC Coders, a group of developers that is highly supportive of the computer science efforts at West.
Students from Central High’s Girls Learn International attended the Globalization and Gender Conference at St. Ambrose University, serving our school, community, and the world in search of justice for all. Their articulate comments, thoughtful questions, and insightful participation at the conference were noticed by many.
The North High String Quartet with members, Tamarah Hayslett (cello), Lauren Hammas (violin), Zach Ford (viola) and Mrs. Hartmann (Associate Orchestra Director as a substitution), performed for the annual Fall Dinner of the Davenport Kiwanis Club on Thursday October 5th, playing for an hour while club members socialized. For their efforts, the students were presented with an honorarium for the North High orchestra program.
On Friday, September 29th, over 100 people, including 20 student volunteers from North, Central, and West High, attended Buchanan Elementary’s first Family Night. The Bettendorf Family Museum presented Flight Night at Buchanan with different activity stations set up throughout the gym, including flying rockets, making gliders and airplanes, and eating together as a family.
