Davenport Students Help Hurricane Survivors

Combo of photos with students and their collections

Davenport students have stepped up to help hurricane survivors. Central High’s Girls Learn International collected $1,100 for the Houston Food Bank to benefit the flood victims of Hurricane Harvey. Over 1,000 students from 95% of Central’s homerooms participated in the fundraiser. Blue Grass fourth-graders, Greta Burs, Halle Hansen, Lauren White, and Kila Wink, organized a “pocket change” collection event, raising $1,166.29. Blue Grass students also brought in pet items to be donated to a pet shelter in Florida. The West High Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates (iJAG) students are collecting supplies, including water, toothpaste, diapers, baby wipes, baby food, and feminine products for people as well as food, toys, and cat litter for the animals.
