On Wednesday, August 30th, Fillmore Elementary kicked off the “Strive for Less than 5!” program, a partnership among several Quad Cities school districts and the United Way to increase attendance (pictured above left). Fillmore challenged every student to come to school to get the year started off right and “rolled out the red carpet” to bring awareness to this initiative. The first 150 students to walk the red carpet and go through the door received a special attendance tattoo. On Thursday, August 31st, Madison Elementary kicked-off its “Challenge 5” promoting fewer than five absences throughout the year with help from Pete the Purple Bull who greeted students and their families along with teachers, staff, and the principal, Mr. Mielenhausen (pictured above right).
