Mid City Students Participate in Online Digital Innovators Course

Three Mid City High students were selected to participate in Davenport Digital Innovators, a pilot online course which will be taught by Mr. Massey at West High School starting next semester.

Central’s Indigo Ink Recognized by Press Association

Indigo Ink, Central High’s literary and art magazine, was awarded first place in the American Scholastic Press Association annual magazine competition. This edition of Indigo Inkwas Central’s sixth, which shows the superior efforts of its talented and creative writers and artists. The editors of last year’s magazine who put together such amazing works of art, poetry, short stories, and other pieces were Emily Delleman, Hannah King, Savannah Moeller, and Erin Opar.

JB Young Students’ YouTube Video Gets 5,000 Hits

JB Young’s Mr. Berg’s 3rd through 5th grade students performed a cardio warm-up version of “Watch Me Whip” that has received nearly 5,000 views on YouTube and was featured on Paula Sands Live. Go here to see it on YouTube.

West’s Medieval Group Celebrates Winter Solstice

The West High Medieval Group’s Winter Solstice Feast was held December 19th in the West High foods room. Lord Caomhin MacSwade (Mr. Swords) prepared four courses with three dishes per course for the Feast. Students ate medievally, without utensils, dressed appropriately, stayed true to their medieval personality, and participated in medieval variations of psychology and literature. They also created the decorations used to transform the foods room into a medieval great hall.

School Board Special Election

At the January 11th Board meeting the Board authorized the Board Secretary to order the Scott County Auditor to hold a special election to fill the vacant board position. The special election will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Candidate nomination papers are available at the Achievement Service Center (ASC), 1606 Brady Street or can be downloaded at School Board Special Election Info. Candidate nomination papers must be filed with the Board Secretary at 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 22,2016 at the ASC, 1606 Brady Street.
