Several Davenport student groups have helped out the less fortunate this holiday season. West High’s National Honor Society students wrapped presents for Brittany’s Gifts. The Central High boys’ basketball teams worked hard to put together and deliver food baskets to J.B. Young and Sudlow schools, and the Leadership Team created a plan to assemble 70 non-perishable holiday dinner boxes for Central as well as Jefferson Elementary families. Walcott student council shopped for their “Cozy Christmas” gifts at Target. This year, an anonymous donor gave Target employees a $100 gift card to add to the collection. Students received numerous compliments from the Target staff about how well-behaved, organized, and polite they were while shopping. Through these and service activities across the district this holiday, Davenport students are giving back and learning important lessons about citizenry.
