West Holds Historical Press Conference in American Government Class

On Wednesday, December 2nd, Mr. Achs’ West High Block 4 American Government class held a historical press conference, a student-centered activity where students in groups of three or four analyzed the Constitution’s philosophical roots by examining a wide variety of political ideologies. These political ideologies held by prominent 17th and 18th century thinkers included Abigail Adams, Chief Hiawatha of the Iroquois League, Thomas Hobbs, King Louis XIV of France, John Locke, and Baron de Montesquieu. Students specifically focused on their beliefs as to whether people can be trusted to govern. After completing this exercise, students were able to critically analyze the Constitution and its ideas.
