Central High Seniors Graham Atkinson and Anthony Vieger have been named semifinalists in the 61st annual National Merit Scholar Program, joining an elite group of 16,000 students from across the country. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the competition’s finalist level. About 90% of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing; about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
Congratulations to these young men and good luck to them as they complete the program’s next stage.
