In the beginning of August, Seniors Katy Axel and Jack Moran and 2015 graduate Hannah Quick traveled to Yosemite National Park in California for a two week backpacking and outdoor education excursion funded by the Alcoa Foundation and hosted by Naturebridge. The three students met up with 22 other students from around the world at a Naturebridge campus in the Marin Headlands. The main event of the program was a 7-day backpacking trip in the Yosemite wilderness. They hiked every day and camped every night, carrying all of their own food and supplies. The highlights of the backpacking trip included sleeping under the stars and summiting at Cloud’s Rest. Overall, the group learned a lot about themselves, the natural world, commitment to the environment, and leadership skills when working as a team.
