Many children in our district won’t have the school supplies they need on the first day of school. 68% of our students are eligible to receive free or reduced lunches. It’s easy to help! The Quad Cities First Day School Supply Drive will hold its Iowa postal carrier collection on Saturday, August 8, 2015. Just place your donation of school supplies for Davenport Community Schools students in a box or plastic bag, if it’s raining, by your mailbox and your postal carrier will pick up it up as part of his or her regular rounds. Some of the supplies students need include: spiral notebooks, pencils, colored pencils, pens, crayons, loose-leaf notebook paper, washable markers, hand sanitizer, backpacks, scissors, erasers, pencil boxes, and other basic supplies. If you miss the postal carrier’s collection, it’s still not too late to help. Whitey’s Ice Cream locations at 1230 W. Locust Street, 2419 E. 53rd Street, and in the North Park Mall will be accepting cash donations from August 1-15 for the First Day project. You can also send a check to the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend, 852 Middle Road, Suite 100, Bettendorf, IA 52722 or donate online at Community Foundation of the Great River Bend and click on “donate now.” We hope you’ll designate your donation to the Davenport Community Schools. On behalf of our students, thank you for your support!
